Considering all of the issues with smugglers in Alaska lately, the thought popped into my head to make a liberty navy or LSF character with the sole purpose of patrolling the system. Problem is, I hate Liberty ship designs, and I never had much fun in house militaries.

Now, I did have a bounty hunter character a while back, and loved that character... just never had much to do with her. So, the idea here is to set up a contract between the LN/LSF and a small, -authorized- squadron of bounty hunters (we'd set up a squadron name/character tag to identify our ships) with the purpose of patrolling alaska and dealing with these intruders.

This squadron would only dock on the prison stations, not on the shipyard or LSF research base, we're not interested in liberty technology - only this contract.

Now, I wouldnt really ask for payment, but it might help the deal if the liberty leadership is willing to pay out a certain small amount as bounty cash for each smuggler or intruder taken down.

So, whatcha think?

If the "established" (and I use that word very loosely) canon of the LN/LSF showing the BHG|Core the way to the Omicrons through Alaska is true, then I would not only support this idea, it would make a lot of sense. After all the Core would want to secure its own safe transportation routes, right?

And they transport stuff straight through Minor to get to Delta.
Right.

There's a reason their guard system is an Omega and not an Omicron.

ANYWAYS
I'm not sure what I think of this solution to the problem.
I have put forward ideas in the past, including the addition of Weapons Platforms with CDs and powerful guns.
I'm not sure if Bounty Hunters is the best choice for security here, though.

In any case, Alaska needs much better security. I do not argue that point.
Simply to prove something to myself, I took it upon myself to fly my Liberty Rogue Mule through Alaska. I had no trouble whatsoever, and I might add that this was while NPC spawn was quite enabled.
That should not be remotely possible.

Like i mentioned in the thread that brought up this issue, I dont think adding locked gates, stationary battleships, or weapons platforms are the solution. Locked gates cause problems for the characters that do need to go through (like setup characters), and most smugglers will repfix themselves so that any stationary defenses are useless.

Besides, all of those options take the potential for player interaction out of the mix, which is something we usually try to avoid here.

Having players take up the security position is the best way to go, and we certainly cant rely on the indy LN's that sit around manhattan all day to do it. The "real" liberty navy and lsf players are usually off fighting rheinland or dealing with other issues, or simply dont want to sit around in alaska waiting for intruders - so it seems like the best option is for them to hire someone who can do the job, and they've been shown to trust the BHG in the past.

Uhhh...No ?

Alaska is secret, and highly restricted system, why do you think we kill anything that passes ? they know TOO MUCH..

no No NO!

Technically, only the navy and the LSF knows of alaska's existence, and possibly the order, anyone else inside the system, is Kill On Sight. And yes, zoners as well, they arent un-touchable by the navy or lsf, if youre in alaska, and dont have proper LN/LSF ID/Tag, then you you get booted out, as a wreck.

I think I've made my point...

I always thought that any non-LSF/Nomad/Order traffic was OORP, as the gate should be locked most of the time, not to mention guarded by elite LN pilots. No smuggler would be able to get through on the NY side.

I've always disliked the idea of bounty hunters in the system at all to be honest. I was just discussing this earlier and I find myself asking why they're there at all. The BH patrols in Alaska are a little out of place in my honest opinion.

Minor is hugely hostile to the hunters, and the only other way in to alaska, is in RP, heavily guarded at all times.

The place is a top secret military installation, with all sorts of dodgey business going on. Random bounty hunters who tend to wander off and are known to be somewhat untrustworthy (being largely made up of ex criminals or so many things would imply) and mercenary in their nature. Comes with the job I suppose.

There is no way in hell a huge and well funded military would hand over security work in one of their most valuable and secret facilities to a privite security firm.

Apart from that, I think you should simply let the Alaska-Minor jumphole collapse.

Nah..then alaska would be deserted and no fun at all...the only way to get in would be from ellesmere, fom another system..which..most people dont even use that way,

Give the Alaska/Minor jumphole instability. Meaning you've got a 50-30% chance of getting through. It should deter power-smugglers considerably..
