Interestingly enough, only their ships were named after Egyptian Gods.
The rest of the Order's stuff had nothing to do with Egypt.

Their guns were all death-based stuff - Reapers, Death's Hands, and whatnot.

And now, come to think of it, both their ships were gods of death.

Liberty has always had those Egyptian figures in bars or something.
That was a bit interesting, I thought. Liberty has always had a few Egyptian ties, oddly enough.
Anyway.

The Order stole its technology from Liberty.
The Osiris in a battleship prototype, obviously.
And the Anubis is obviously descended form the Defender.

Maybe they were both Egyptian because they came from Liberty.

But maybe they were both named after Gods of death that were similar, given their similarities.
Anubis was an illegitimate son, true enough.

(Oddly enough, as an aside, the infocard from the Anubis, or "Order Ship" that you fight in the very beginning of the campaign as the Donau is destroyed were said to have been constructed using technology from every part of Sirius. Just a random aside.)

What I'm actually trying to say here is that perhaps the Order didn't have a basis on Egyptian mythology in the original game, but perhaps it was based on Death. Osiris, Anubis, Reaper, Death's Hand, etc... Those are all deathly things. I'll bet you that Toledo is also some sort of reference to Death.

I'm not saying we should change it.
I personally love the Egyptian theme.
(As in TROO LOEV)

I'm just saying that we might not have interpreted things exactly right.
Random thought, as the title says.

(I have a lot of these when I ponder canon, vanilla Freelancer, Discovery, and infocards. I just spare you all.)

I'm fairly certain Toledo is a town in... Iowa? Ohio? Or somewhere around there.

Toledo is a city on the border of Michigan and Ohio in the US. Michigan and Ohio had an intense debate over who should get ownership of it. At the end of the debate, a family of drunk Michiganders went South to Toledo, started a fight, and killed two Ohio residents. After that, the government gave Michigan the Upper Peninsula and Ohio got Toledo. We thought we were shafted because the UP had no resources, but then we found Copper in its pure form. In the end, Wisconsin got shafted because it used to be a part of Wisconsin. :P

History lesson for the day.

But on topic, I agree with you.

5 seconds on Google confirm this, its also a municipality in Spain.

Certainly no Egyptian connection there, which seems to support your point.

Agreed, the Toledo in game is probably referring to Spain.

Sorry, Bacon.

Erm... why the heck would it be Spain? Since when was The Order Spanish? I thought they were a breakoff faction from Liberty.

No, I'm fairly certain it refers to the Toledo in Ohio, since that's the only Toledo it could possibly be referring to.
