I see it on a regular basis, "<insert name> has suffered a catastrophic decompression".

I know why people planet/sun dive, it's because the ship they are in has taken too much damage, so instead of docking and paying to fix the damage, they planet/sun dive and respawn at wherever they were last docked.... with a nice new shiny ship, which includes any bot/bats they might have had left.

Is it possible to make it so that if people do planet/sun dive, when they respawn their ship is either MORE damaged, due to the planet/sun dive or has the same damage as when they were destroyed?

This would fit in with the RP theme that the server follows.

I don't think you quite get why people sundive. Usually it means evading a very expensive repair bill that can tot up even into the millions with VHFs. As well as getting back any lost guns people have had shot off that have costed them loads. Suicide is fine as it is man, damaging the ships after the decompression wouldn't be very logical and would be incredibly irritating.

Once your dead your dead, if you want to go harcore with the RP then rename your character every time you die. "You only have one life" and all that jazz.

Believe me I do know why people planet/sun dive, I know it can be horribly expensive to pay for repairs.

I'm not a 'hard core' Rp'r , heck I know I RP badly.

I've never suicided on purpose to avoid a big repair bill, not even when I played here previously.

With the /givecash command, I can't see why it should be a problem, people generally have a char that flies both a trader and another ship of some sort.

I have a single RP char that flies several different ships, the main ship my char flies being 'OPUS', a trader.

@sindroms;

I just want to know if ti's doable, I'll leave it up to the Admins whether they want to implement it or not.

Because trading is boring.

Which is why I'm dead broke.

I personally have never done or even considered this, but the next time my VHF damage tolls into the millions, I think I'll consider it because its worth it.

its not the bill, its the weapons. What if you loose your codenames? Your shield? (happened to me too many times) or your inferno, mini and such.

What about caps? Two bs missiles can strip a cruiser of its turrets.

After the nice battle with the San Francisco, the Ravensburg had a repairbill of 25 Million credits.

After 3 days in the Oder dockyard (yeah even ingame i was sitting with her there from time to time), I had also to sundive with her.

I could have payed the repairbill, but that would have cost me nearly 2 hours of trading I guess.

Mount a codename/snac/other expensive weapon, get it blown off in battle and then dock and come back to say the same thing.

No one wants to run around after every battle to re-buy their lost equipment, that is why people suicide. Conn. will be deserted because people routinely SNAC off each other's equipment in there.

Imagine you buy 4 archangels for say... 60 mil, and put them on your VHF, now imagine you meet some missilespamming libby who just manages to shoot them all off before dying.

What would you do?

Or how about another scenario, imagine you take your big bad BS into a fleet battle, and the enemy just happens to have 3 or 4 bombers with (duel) novas, you loose most of your guns, and the only ones left are the heavy dammage ones (Mortars, Battle Razors etc.), buying 14 primaries can cost upwards of 30 mil (more than 40 for 14 cerbs), and repairing a 25% health HM will cost you another 30 mil. While rebuying the nanos, bats and countermeasures will cost 700k.

Again, what would you do?
