Just for fun i decided to buy a Liberty Dreadnought and to my dismay when i tried to dock with the trade lane in NY.... it wouldn't dock. Do all the largest battleships have the problem that the can't dock with tradelanes? If not this might be a bug or it might not be a bug if they're not supposed to be docking with tradelanes.

It's a problem all big ships have.
You need to align the ship to the TL in order to dock successfully.

And not even that guarantees success at all times.

You should have tried getting into a trade lane with a corsair dreadnouhgt THAT was a lottery

Try it with the Outcast Dreadnaught.. Half the time I give up and form with NPCs that are entering the TL so that it takes me into it.

It should be noted that some battleships are much easier to dock at tradelanes than others, giving them a manueverability advantage. Since manueverability is a balance factor, those ships that cannot dock at tradelanes should have some compensating attribute.

I don't think maneuverability is the issue with docking the tradelanes, I'd call that a 'dockpoint+hitbox' issue. Besides, that docking issue doesn't have any effect in battle.

The Outcasts consider Siniestre Nube a sacred place for several reasons. Early explorers discovered a jumphole within the depths of the cloud that leads to a strange world of ringed stars and strange craft. All ships in the burrial ground are placed facing that hole to honor the Alien Spirits. - An Outcast rumor

I disagree, about docking having no effect on battle that is. Yes the hitbox of a ship is what determines its ease of trade lane docking, but the effect is a strategic manuevering difference between one ship and another.

If a Battleship pilot wishes to move from one part of a core system to another swiftly, the tradelanes are the fastest way. Being able to position your battleship in a given part of a system with speed is a key tactical advantage. A policing unit can more easily intercept pirates or smugglers. A military unit can more easily flank or cut off enemy advances with tradelane access.

Compare the Kusari Battleship with the Liberty Dreadnaught. The Lib dread is shaped like a hatchet head cigar, the Kus BS is shaped like a porcupine. Take the same pilot and time him in a trip from Denver to Los Angeles in each ship and see how much slower the Kusari Battleship gets there.

Yes, I agree if the pilot was flying the Li Dread and is used to it. If you give the same pilot anything else than an Osiris, he will perform much worse. Same with any class of ships.

On the other hand, depends what were you thinking by 'should have some compensating attribute.'? I personally think you are a bit biased since you're KNF. Maybe I'm wrong, just an opinion.

In my experience playing FL when a clan is trying to defend a core system they concentrated all their cap ships in one area to maximise their defensive capabilities. The only ships they sent round the system were fighters as scouts. So Trade lanes dont have never really mattered at all in battles involving cap ships. And even then most people dont expect to get a BS anywhere quickly because most have no hope of using trade lanes.

My experience was such with my Nemesis:

A few days ago, we were on a visit of courtessy in Honshu. Nemesis, Pegasus and the cruiser Arrow of Athena. Quite suddenly a potentially hostile target appeared in New Tokyo and KNF requested our assistance to escort the intruder out of the system or engage if necessary. Redeploying the battlestars took longer, than it could due to trade lanes and the problems, caused by our ships' size. they would sometimes just hang up while being half-inside. it took some time to get to the RV point and by that time, the intruder was almost away. We just about caught up with him. Later, we pursued him and asked out of the system, which was complied. In such cases, the ability to dock with a TL smoothly is key in my op.
