We've all seen how many new commers sometimes don't know how to properly RP, even some peopel who've been here for a while. But I think I have an idea as to why we are not seeing an increase in RP skills from alot of people, even the rise in OoRP talk.

simply put

/l

All the good, professional RP is hidden by this now. None of these new commers are really exposed to discovery's best RP anymore...even in a system with 15 people in it, the only people talking over the system wide comms are either people who do not know about /l.... people looking to make trouble...or people trying to RP with someone far away.

Most of the time though, good pirate RP is hidden...they don't want to be caught. Lawfuls also use this to RP in system, while keeping their comms away from pirates. Even small talk is kept hidden from the public...understandable. But the problem is, we can't really set a good example to people by hiding all the RP. Now I understand that not everything should be public...but really. How often do you use only the insystem chat...not reverting to the /l ?

Let's try something.
Let's use /l just a bit less and see what happens.
Just an idea....my theory may be wrong, but worth atleast putting out there

You've got a point. People should start doing that.

P.S. I completely forgot about /l, so I'm cool with it anyways

How many traders do you think are going to pass through a lane when a pirate has been robbing people through system chat?
It's bad enough they can see me in system from the chat menu, due to my LR- tag sticking out like a ore thumb, let alone making it easier for them to know I'm there...

Not that traders are much of a source of RP entertainment any way, but on the odd occasion you get one who RPs brilliantly. I usually give them back their money once they've carried on.

Now I'll be right back. Gotta go kill three Tridentes who just tried to pirate an LR- Falcata.

I support your theory, when I RP with my Cryer co-workers I usually do it in system /s. Because of most of what we RP are not very important stuff, I'd only reveal my location in private or local though in case of pirates in system.

Generally yeah, good RPers should really chat in system more and less in group and local.

I haven't noticed an increase in Lulwuts so much as I have an increase in non-English speakers. Every time I pirate somebody on the League, I get a "I don't speak English so good", to which I grumble and let them on their way. League decree, you see, but its still frustrating that 3/4 traders doesn't speak the server language.

-Edit- Otherwise we fancy the ever-dead Bretonia region, and thus it doesn't really matter so much as to which messaging we use. Generally if there's a bunch of people (i.e. Leeds) that day, I'll spout off some jabber in system, but otherwise its just local because I like the shade of blue... And because he is one of two people in system besides us.

/l has been burned into my hands. i need to watch myself vary closely to make sure i dont type in a /drawcash command as /ldrawcash... i did that once. luckily no one else was in the system.

oh man, one time I forgot the / while doing a drawcash, so my powertrade passcode was all over the system chat...... But yeah I find myself wishing there was a Local Chat button in between group and system....

Whats sad is, 3/4 of those traders will turn into capship pilots, and a capship with a non english speaker is not good.

However, I do not think RP is declining.

Ive been in rhienland for a few days now in my indy bs (RNC_Stormholm) and I have not seen a single other indy RBS. For that matter, No official RM's either... Which is why im staying up late tonight so i can meet malexa and them again.

Id expect capwhorishness in rhienland to be way up because of the war with Liberty, but not so much.

(hopefully not sounding too pesimistic)

Perhaps it is not the RP that is declining but discovery itself?
