Ol'Grumpy

My latest and greatest roleplaying charater.

Has been questioned about some rules.

Despite this:
Quote:5.2 All attacks must be the result of some form of role play. "Engaging" is not sufficient. An attack is any hostile action that drains shields to less than 50%. Being hit with a CD is not considered an attack. If a player is attacked he has a right to defend himself regardless of who is attacking.

5.3 Characters that are level 29 and below may only be attacked if at least one of the following conditions is met:

a) They do not have a civilian ID. Recruit IDs should be respected if the person is using it appropriately.
b) They attack you first by draining your shields to 50% or disrupt your cruise engines.
c) They are at the scene of a battle between yourself and someone else and refuse to leave when told to leave. (Civilians should leave the area when combat takes place or accept the risk of being attacked if remaining. Onlookers are fair targets.)
d) Civilians who possess a CODENAME weapon may be attacked within roleplay at any level according to the piracy requirements.

First of all Grumps is under level 30 and in a very small weak ship.
Kind of a town drunk if ya will.

If i am too shoot a vessel with small weapon. Barely hurting shield is that enough room for attack?
Or is it still the 50% rule?

Second, if i CD a vessel is that considered an attack and grounds to be killed?
CD isn't considered an attack

If this is true, I know some people who didn't want to roleplay and decided it would be easier to fire two shots and blow ol grumps up.

So has rules changed or are the current listed ones still right?

Because someone tried to convince me thier are "new" rules... If this is infact a "lie" a bounty may be placed by Ol' Grumpy out of his retirment money.

Sticking to the Civilian ID, you can't iniciate any attack, and you shouldn't be touched.
But, I wouldn't go too far with that, for example, if you are giving to lawfuls the position of an unlawful fleet, the unlawfuls would want to kill you. That's a RP justification to blow you up to pieces.

So, if you attack someone, it should be considered an attack once you drain his shield to %50 (but remember, civilian ID doesn't allow you to attack).

By the way i also don't go around shooting people trying to get them to

fight. More so just taunt them I usually only fire when I am ignored just

to get them to comment on how weak the ship is, so I can roleplay that.

But you answered my question thanks. Ol'Grumps will paying for these men dead I do think.

EDIT: Also i do believe i posted in the wrong area. Sorry. Still figuring out the forum set up and lay out, not posted much.

If you want to shoot at anyone, regardless of what weapon you're using or how much damage you're dealing, get a proper ID and ship. Dont hide behind a civilian ID.

Yeah but you can do that in any ship, they just blow you up or you blow them up (Same ol same ol).

A civilian has to be taken to jail.

More RP that was and break from the powertrading and powerplaying everyone else seems to be into lately.

So im trying something different.

A bit of feedback on Ol'Grumpy for ya.

Saw you in NY for a few hours, rambling on about something or at someone. At first you sounded like a bit of a pain. But then I quickly began too enjoy listening to your 'EH! Come back er sonny' and stuff. Although it was a little bit annoying how you stopped me, and everyone who came your way, you gave us good compliments on our 'liberty muscle' :D

Anyway, itd be a shame for you to delete this char, hes pretty funny threataning ships 10x more powerfull than him shouting ''ill lava slap you for that one' and stuff.

Id say...keep up the good work, but dont stop every single person who passes you;)

EDIT: Also you might want a Merc ID, and over lvl 30 too.

OK, I was the other party involved here, and I am also very interested on the ruling for this, for future reference. For the record, Ol' Grumps' RP is much more amusing than most and should get props for that.

I will do my best to present all the information on this case.

I'm patrolling around in New York looking for bad guys. I run into Grumps. He orders me to stop. A bit taken aback by his pretentiousness, I perform a quick scan of his vessel, determine he's not a threat, basically tell him to go away and I continue about my business.

I dock with a trade lane. He runs to dock before I do, gets ahead, and disrupts the lane really fast somehow. (Do CD disrupt lanes now?)

I get a bit more annoyed at him, tell him he is obstructing justice and that next time I will arrest him. I engage cruise engines to return to my patrol. HE DISRUPTS ME FROM CRUISE.

Rules Wrote:5.3 Characters that are level 29 and below may only be attacked if at least one of the following conditions is met:

b) They attack you first by draining your shields to 50% or disrupt your cruise engines.

"OR disrupt your cruise engines."

I turn around, tell him that he is now in violation of the law (Server Rules) and "I am now authorized to engage you. Are you sure you wish to continue with this course of action?"

His buddy intercedes via system-comms with a, "He's just a drunk, don't mind him" or something along those lines. So I leave him again and continue to patrol.

Several minutes later I'm around Manhatten with a few others, and Ol' Grumps shows up again. He starts spamming me with Cruise Disruptors and preventing me from catching up to my Navy wingmate, who has continued on ahead of me. I tell him to stop. He doesn't listen. I inform him of my immanent attack, and after playing peek a boo around a battleship for a few seconds. Get a clean shot off and destroy his vessel. I tractor his pod and get ready to "arrest him" by docking with Manhatten, but get caught up in a rule-argument before I can RP any arresting. Then the server goes down for maintenance. Brilliant timing.

Anyway, I would like to know exactly who is wrong and right in this scenario, or is it all shades of fuzzy gray?

Before this turns into a forum trial of any sort, let me make it clear that I have nothing personal against Marshal here, and do my best to uphold the rules as I interpret them. His Ol' Grumpy got in my way thrice in a row after I warned him of the consequences very politely, and I believe the ruling on disrupting-cruise-engines = green-light-for-engagement is specifically directed at dealing with these types of repeated frustrations. I can't have Ol' Grumpy dropping me out of warp when I'm trying to chase a pirate down or trying to catch up to a wingman.

Opinions?

I didn't cruise disrupt you. I didn't have any as i have said. It was the npcs probably.

But many misunderstandings so don't worry yourself over it.

Well then perhaps it was indeed a misunderstanding. NPCs find all sorts of ways to mess people up despite not being sentient.

As for the ID: Yea, Ol' Grumpy isn't gonna have any fun without the Civy ID protecting him. I'd suggest keeping him below level 30 if his purpose in life is to bother people.
