Ok. This is going to sound like the most assanine and hard to do idea you have ever seen. But I know that we could do it. We have some incredibly talented people on the dev team.

What if we made a floating server? Let me define this.

We set up 10 servers. Then we have the data synced between them. How it works is that every downtime, it would randomly select a server to "move" to. That means that a DDoS attack gets a bit harder.

The other 9 servers can be honeypots.

It's not practical, the easiest way to deal with a DDoS is simply to cut the server's connection to the net until it blows over.

Thing is we need 10 good machines and 10 good connections.
Its not a really cheap thing.

unless we use the top 10 most active client users as server hosts and reboot the server when they log off.

also not practical, the best thing is to utilize the so called "honey pot"

Might I also point out that if said person could infect one, it would cause a chain reaction that would cause them all to come down because they couldn't handle the added stress.

If anyone remembers the blackout in the summer of 2003-6? The powerplants were set up in a similar manner.
