So, as I pack up my final things to depart the bay I chance upon Mechwarrior 4 and, being the enthusiast for old games that I am, embark on a multi-day journey of getting my arse handed to me by Cannon as we spar back in forth in our various striding robot thingies of doom.

Gosh I think, as I slap my Clan LBX 20 onto my Inner Sphere mech. How -nice- it would be if I didn't need to ever hear about an OORP loadout ever again ever. How lovely it would be if a gun was just a ER laser or a laser or a tachyon or a what have you.

I understand one of the core things behind Freelancer and Disco is that certain groups have certain guns and some guns are better for some things and are balanced for certain ships and so on and so forth but...

In my deepest dreams, those not involving pits that swelter with forbidden desire realized, I dream of a mod where I never see a sanction report about player A using Y guns with X ship. A mod where we've just got a bunch of guns and you use whatever seems like the best thing to use. No more Gaian Angel. Just a gun with some stats on it. Use it if you wanna.

Granted that would likely end up being a mod of Wyrms. But there you have it.

One could argue that a mod like that would lack diversity. Also, it would be somewhat OoRP from a faction point of view, because of all the secrecy they put into making their own "better" guns. But, of course, it would simplify the rules a tad bit.

If you played Vanilla multiplayer, you would probably know what that would be like... Everyone having the same loadout and leaving a pile of guns without any usage. I didn't like it much, but that's just me :/

Like Crucial said, it would remove the diversity, although yes, it would get rid of OORP loadouts.

But still, its nice to have each faction having different guns, with different sounds and stuff like that.

I like the suggestion made a while ago to remove all the stats from gun and ship infocards, so people would judge equipment on their "feel" instead of the stats. Unfortunately most people would pass on the infocard mystery and head straight for Datastorm and FLStat.

Well, if we did remove the diversity of factionalised guns, how about we improve the variety of weapons choices? In comparison to MW4 weapons choice, we only have the laser weapons, and a few of the missiles. Not including flamers, unfortunately.

But, we try to stay as Vanilla as possible while still being us. Oh well.

Now that would be a good idea.

If only we could occlude stats from those programs.

It'd be interesting, but then we'd have really boring fights. Different guns mean different play styles. Also, I like to see all the different colors when observing fights.

Ah Mechwarrior. if Jade falcon Mechs arent overpowered, I dont know what is.

At any rate, Just give the weapons diffrent strengths, and make 100% sure that they are Similar inh power, just having diffrent strengths. I would give this a Size seven red [color=#FF0000]Fsyah

Wasn't that what it was like in one of the old versions of Disco? Everyone flew Sabres with Krakens and Tizonas?

What if Cannon whipped up an FLhook program that boosted the power of weapons if you used them with the corresponding ship/faction ID? Maybe something like a 5% boost for matching ship and 5% for matching ID. That would encourage people to use their own equipment rather than the equipment of other factions.
