Since the original thread got locked, I'm posting my edit here. This is me pulling a bunch of stats off of various sources and calculating the amount of time it would take for a 6x Wyrm 2 Sabre with an Inferno to kill a GB.

Quote:Gunboat Shield = 140k
Inferno deals 25k shield damage at 8,200 energy and .33 refire. So you can theoretically fire it every three seconds. The Sabre powerplant is 11,400 with 1,160 regen. 11,400 - 8,200 is 3,200. You'd have to wait about five seconds to refire it, so you can then fire it once every 6-7 seconds.

You can deal 25k damage every 5 seconds on average, which is easy to do while avoiding fire. A well-flown Sabre can, in this case, take down a Gunboat shield in 40-50 seconds. From there it's just time to pound on hull with mines and Wyrms.

The Imperator has 125,000 base armor. Say that it has a UAU8, making that into about 300,000. A Wyrm 2 does 650 hull damage. 6 x 650 is 3,900 damage per full barrage. It would take about 100 full hull barrages to kill a UAU8 Imperator without nanobots or batteries. Counting these into the equation, You'd need to hit the hull anywhere from 200-300 times. With a 3.03 refire, this translates to about 600-900 seconds of just attacking hull.

While the numbers seem large and scary, actually doing it ingame isn't that difficult, it just takes a while, especially if the gunboat is wasting energy rear-firing missiles, reducing turret cover. Without a CD, the gunboat can joust, but no good fighter pilot would joust a GB. They'd just Inferno and dodge.

Edlol: This is assuming the Sabre knows how to fight a GB.

Wait, so ten to fifteen straight minutes of shooting at a hull.
IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE.

I'm just showing that fighters can do more than pewpew fighters and bombers. They're actually useful in fleet engagements.

The gunboat must be a retard, and the Sabre must be an experienced fighter. Also, not all your shots will hit.

Awesome, one single shield buster and full hull busters.

I can get it done faster with a 4 deb 2 kraken minirazor combo.

Titans with coladas have roughly the same effect, I figure. It's great to have such option of a rapid pulse discharge so that you can dodge for the rest of the time.

Also Cabulb has a point - debilitators are more energy efficient than the inferno. That comes with a disadvantage of having to lock on your target for longer.

Er, who was in doubt of this, exactly?

It's even grater to have such option of a rapid hull bust discharge so that you can dodge for the rest of the time.

i use 4 ragnarok and 3 debs on my kraken + a tcd.... i deal like 3-4k shield a and roughly 5-6k hull damage/shot....

and no, a fight CANNOT, solo rape a gunboat, unless the gunboat captain is a 3 week old dysfunctional and blind penguin....

1 missile usually rapes your shield....
missile spam WILL make the GB/GS prevail.... its a law.... even a titan, with all colada, nuke and mr; a deadly enemy. will eventually fail against a missile spamming cap 8 trident.... trust me, you can be the ace of the world, but if that GB just uses turret view a little bit before firing, then your not gonna get a easy match. BUT the gunboat would get a heavy beating, possibly ruining its chances to win another fight against a bomber/gunboat
