Hi, sorry I'm relatively new to the forums and I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'm just curious as to what you guys think is an acceptable amount to pirate off a trader. Whether you are a pirate or a trader please express your opinions. I say this because whilst doing my standard trading run the other day I was pirated by two Outcast gunboats. (I won't reveal their names for their sake) Anyway they demanded 6 million credits off me and I considered this to be absolutely ridiculous, I even went OORP just to check he hadn't mistyped. I managed to haggle to price down to a still excessively high 3 million, at which point I traded the money and was destroyed. After a few words with the person afterwards I managed to retrieve my 3 million as reparations for destroying me after I had paid them. On the pirate side of things at the very max I will pirate 1 million. Anyway enough of my blabber express yourselves!
Dream Theater - "Sabre120 and Jongleur officially win. That is all."
1-1.5 Million is an acceptable amount...perhaps more if there are several pirates, but I don't like that form. 6 Million is unnaceptable, you'd be better off getting killed. 3 Million for the two gunships...well, like I said, I don't like that form, but some people will disagree with me.

Well 6 millions is certainly too much to ask for that run...
(and just to be sure pass you eyes in the players sanctioned thread and see if the two gunboats that pirated you are there.. **im having a brainstorm here**)

When I'm trading and anyone insists on more than two million or for more than one-third of my cargo, I simply drop the cargo, shoot it, and crash into the nearest star or planet.
A planet is RP'd as emergency landing. A star is RP'd as a potential warp in the space-time continuum that will shoot me back to the last base I landed on.
All the lolcasts out there never come here. We can rant all we want... why did we think the players that don't put any RP effort into it would actually come here and read this? Let alone defend their actions!
Admins/devs need to step in on this one sometime soon... it's getting out of hand lately.
Today, I was stopped between Denver and Newark running superconductors hoping to make 400k (tops) in a short run. Everyone's favorite type of pirate was waiting right next to the gate -- of course in his Tridente, flying Freelancer IFF so he won't get shot by the lanes or come up hostile to scans. Indie pirate ID so he can dock wherever. Naturally.
Anyway, guy demands $5M to start (!!!), and then "settles" on me dropping ALL of my cargo. As if the guy could even take it. Heaven forbid he RP a reason besides 'u can't pay tax, u lose cargo.'
Story ends when he starts shooting me without giving me the notice, and the LN shows up in time to let me get away. (Thanks to those guys, btw. Never got a chance to formally say thank you because I had to immediately defend Trenton from another outcast trying to pirate one of our guys parked OUTSIDE OUR BASE AT MANHATTAN.)
Think it's always been this bad? Just check all of the new topics out here in the past week. How many are devoted to rants/complaints/debates about excessive piracy and non-RP players? And who's listening, anyway?
It's gonna make a dent on the total number of players sooner or later... mark my words.
since no admin has voiced over this, I don't know what's "too much"
I was asked to pay 5 mil and drop 500 of my gold ore once.
Comes to big number, but hey. Keep it in rp, if their demand makes sense and they roleplay - see what can you do to avoid it all.
3 million isn't much.
if they are blunt and keep insisting with no response to your roleplay, eh.. they dont deserve it;)
Those two are demanding 6 million even from light fighters. I guess it's a preset message. They shot me before I could type a line of laughter. I won't say it's a so common phenomena thou. A lot of people knows them, I advise you to shout for help on as many channels you can if you meet them.
