The story:
My friend and I wanted to share a file between our computers using a crossover cable so we decided to enable file sharing on windows XP. In order to do this, I selected my computer right clicked on the local disk C:, I then hit properties, tabbed over to sharing and hit a link that said, "I understand the risk of file sharing but I still want to share the root of the drive" I hit this and then it brought up a menu that asked of I wanted to enable file sharing. I selected this box. Then windows offered two options. Configure my file sharing using a wizard or just allow file sharing. I hit "just allow file sharing" I then hit "ok" and transferred the file to my friend.

The problem:
This morning I wanted to disable file sharing but I cannot seem to make my hard drive become a non-shared drive. My drive always appears in My Network Places and is accessible despite the fact that I have tried turning off file sharing on C: in several different ways, including: disabling small file sharing between folders, deselecting the file sharing box that I originally selected in hard drive properties and disabling the file sharing protocol in my network connections. NONE OF THIS WORK!! I am totally stumped as to why my drive is not hidden from other users

PLZ HELP I dont want to share my hard drive with the world!!!!!

Win caches old network connections.
I guess thats why your old shared folder appears in your network overview.

Heres a question, you have set your C drive to un-shareable, though it still pops up in My Network Places.

So, are you still able to access the drive from the other computer? Or do you get an access denied error?
