I don't know anything about coding, and I don't know what's hard-coded in Freelancer and what isn't... But would it be possible to code reputation modifiers into IDs? What I mean is, say someone equips an Outcast ID... As long as that ID is equipped, all the enemies of the Outcasts have their reputation modified to full red.
If this is possible, it certainly wouldn't fix the problems with people buying equipment that shouldn't be available to them, but it might help a little bit. It would also just be a nice feature... My Outcast is absolutely loved by half a dozen factions that should be hostile with him. That gets annoying.
great idea i hate when newer players say why you attacking me your green to me(drives me crazy)

Yeah I gotta say this is one of the best ideas I have heard in a while. This has my full support if it goes further. And hell why not make it modify your rep to give you the tag as well... that way it forces people to RP:)
' Wrote:The one problem I see with this is that people could change there rep buy just buying a new id, and then everyone they anoyed couldnt get back at em.
People can already do that if they really wanted to, but it'd be breaking RP.
I don't think the IDs should make any factions green, or even neutral. Make people work for their friends, but automatically get their enemies.
I'm guessing, like so many good ideas, things are going to turn out to be hard-coded so it wouldn't work.
