Hello guys! I've seen once a player being sanctioned only by saying "hehe" on the chat system...I'm not here to discuss if it was right or wrong, but what could be used for "laughs" instead of "hehehe" so no one will be sanctioned for saying this? Maybe an emote *laughs*? Do you agree it's more in-RP? Please post your opinions and I thank for them in advance!:)
i don't know the instance you spoke of but i'm all the time saying "HAHAHAAHHA" which seems better than describing what your saying. when you laugh your making noise so it'd make sense to me that the person would hear that noise. i could see the emote type thing for *smiles* and the like but not noises.
That's a little odd that someone was santioned for "hehe."
I always put a star/asterisk enclosing any onomatopoeia's... example:
*laugh*
*chuckle*
*growl*
This all seems reasonable to me, as you could easily make these sounds over a radio comm.
I've had no trouble so far. Although, maybe I've never run into the guy that complained about "hehe."
Hello! Well, I don't remember exactly the thread what I've seen it and actually I'm not able to find it anymore...either I'm getting crazy or the thread was moved or deleted. But so, if there's no reason to forbid "hehe"s maybe I will say them, just avoid visiting Tau-31 because things seem a bit...tense...there!:P
I thinks its covered by everyone else... But I've got a question about laughing too.
Why is everybody getting sanctioned for having a little fun? I mean, "OMG LOOL LAWL ROFLMAO" is one thing, but saying "Haha", or "=D" is another. As I've said before, smileys help get your mood across... But what about "haha"? Your characters do have souls... Electronic souls, but souls nontheless.
In a universe, people don't walk around, all serious and hardcore all the time. It's not all, "Let's hunt Nomads, brother... The scourge of this and that."... ... Amongst another load of random nothingness. Nothingness being the limit of my current will to come up with more.
I mean, if you were floating about with your brother in space... And imagine this is real life, since our charcters are RP... Wouldn't you make some jokes? Don't you people sleep at night? You don't always wear a gold money chain, a leather vest, and spiked gloves with a matching collar and act serious all day... Right?
Your characters are PEOPLE as far as this server is concerned, yet everybody keeps getting sanctioned for RPing as PEOPLE. I'm very confused and distraught.
To sum everything up, we aren't serious all the time as people, so can't we at least be joking as our characters? Like... why did the Xeno cross the trade lane? Something? Anything! I'm just afraid to breathe wrong at this point... I really only PM my brothers, because I'm afraid an Admin might say I have a damaged fin and the Order don't get damaged, so... Sanction! That was a total dramatization of course, but you get my point... I'm rather afraid.
Can somebody help? Is RP joking allowed or should I just never system chat... ever...?
Hello Magoo! And thank you and everyone for the participation. Maybe the player who complained misunderstood his reason for being banned, and it was not because of the "hehe". Anyway, things are very tense on tau-31 and I suggest everyone to avoid it to avoid future problems.
About the "=D", there is a point: think in the RP way. If I'm talking to you through a radio I don't know if you are smiling or in bad mood...maybe for the tone of your voice but then it could happen you to say something "text *smiling tone*" or something like this.
I'm also afraid of breathing wrong, and I have years of RP experience...so that's why I start this threads. It is not to judge the admins, but to know better what I can and what I cannot do.
The most obvious conclusion I can take about the "hehe" is that the player misunderstood the reason to be banned. Unfortunately I don't have the link for the thread, but I know that I saw it...only if I was dreaming or something! ;P
Well, I've never been sanctioned and I don't think I need to knock on wood.
But, I would think someone would type, "OOC: Hey, you guys need to stay IC in system chat."
To which you would reply, "OOC: We ARE in character. But thanks for the heads up anyways."
It seems that politeness is key if you want to avoid sanctions.
As far as "smileys" go. I personally really don't like to see them in system chat. They're ugly, and ruin the mood for me. Emotes look nicer than smileys....
Bob Sagat: *Angry* What do you want your tombstone to say?
Paul Newman: *Sarcastic* Please, sir, don't hurt me!
Umm... By emotes to you mean *--*? Asterisk-text? Or are there some strange emote commands I'm unaware of?
On the topic of not being able to hear a smiley... Smilies in my mind, are mostly voice tones. Like, "Hi, Bob! =D"... Excited and happy.
But on the contrary, when you get radio'd by a police-cop... Or anybody else... A little video feed pops up. Sooo... Technically I guess there is a video feed too? Theoretically?
