Maybe a stupid idea, but lets see:

Make a real giant system - lets say 1000k or 2000k or more wide.

Question is, how large can FL systems be made? If not, this thread is really pointless.

IF thats possible, merge - for example - Dresden, New Berlin, Braunschweig, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Halle into ONE system. With the jumpgates and holes becoming in-system-gates and holes, like the NY-NY jumphole.

Benefit: We could have something like "Rheinland chat" or "Bretonian chat". Communication would be easier. F6-overview-map would be smaller.
Also we would have more players in each system.

Now, flame me for posting such crap or not.

Not needed. The current systems work just fine. This would be pointless.

Uhhhh.... It's possible, perhaps not for us though.
Even so, I don't really like it that much.
Though I would like to see some bigger systems, merging pre
existing ones is meh.

Perhaps just make the system chat in each house go to every system of the house? (Except Pennsylvania and NY chat.)

I foresee lag being an issue.

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

Simply?
No.

Possible?
Yes.

Amount of work?
Massive.
Would require every single system to have all the patrol paths, all the positioning of things etc moved.
Plus there are graphics glitches at long distances.

Making huge systems is possible, however, there is a limit to how many objects can be added per system. So this idea, not possible I dont think.

Agreed.

Plus Vanilla can't be tampered with much.

Moving Buffalo 5k to the left for example, would break New York, and would takes weeks of fixing.

Too much lags for now, amount of work needed to do that is as Linuks said: massive. I don't see necessity of this.

Making systems that size; Possible.

Systems that size often going over the maximum object count (New York is already at that limit by itself); Very probable.

Merging systems; As time-intensive as making three completely new systems (and heavily object-filled) from scratch, and very prone to bugs. Also would require a server wipe. This would be merging just TWO systems, not 5-6.

And that's just the basics.

Freeworlds has gargantuan systems like you're describing. The scale is really quite impressive.

That said, yes, it IS possible to merge a system, but it would be a truly phenomenal amount of work. It would take weeks of dedicated planning and work (we're talking 8-12 hours a day seven days a week) and testing by a group of very skilled modders. System modding r srs bsns.

EDIT: Like Dab said, especially with the object limit.
