The Kusari Destroyer. The infamously small Cruiser that causes a variety of balancing problems. While not terribly imbalanced as it is, this ship is responsible for holding back the entire Cruiser ship class. Any improvements to Cruisers make the Kusari Dessie an uber pwn ship.

I strongly believe it is in the best intrest of this mod to upscale the Kusari Destroyer, it will benefit the entire Cruiser Class by allowing the Mods more working space.

But it's a vanilla ship, you say? We can't edit it you say? Is this a mod or not? Many things from Vanilla have been altered to improve game play. I believe this will also.

These size comparisons are against the Bretonian Dessie, the Kusari Dessie's most common opponent, and common light cruiser, the Liberty Siege Cruiser

Original

x2 upscale

x2.5 upscale

Note that a x3 upscale is far too big of an increase. x2.5 is the max I could achieve while still keeping the ship looking a realistic size.

Please keep comments calm and constructive. Avoid posting inflamitory comments, lets keep this clean, I know it'll be a touchy subject for some.

EDIT:
A size comparison with the Dragon Cruiser, because it is relevant. Size comparison contains x2 and x2.5 scaled Destroyer.

The Kusari Destroyer is the size of a gunboat at the moment and is something the Blood Dragon cruiser can't stand up to for its size, having a smaller profile and basically the same power and energy the last time I checked. this is also on of the ships I dislike the most having had at least one of these shooting me every time I fight in my little Katana so much I refuse to play on my ]bd[.

2x will make it the same size as the others so I voted for that

I agree, 2x times bigger will make it. It's pain in the *** to aim that thing with a SNAC. Doesn't fit into the Cruiser Class like that.

I was pleasantly surprised how the 2x scale looked in comparison to the other ships. It no longer looked absurd next to the other ships in its class.

2x upscale.

The ship isn't even properely scaled (window wise) at the moment. Needs a size buff.

I am personally so sick of this dessie that I want it scaled at least 2.5x up.

However, removing my historical bias, it seems a 2x increase looks about right, with associated alterations to agility etc. I have yet to understand how this cruiser has ever been considered balanced by anyone.

I think this has been discussed... many times...

My opinion stands the same as it is in the Bretonian gunboat thread.

Leave the Destroyer alone, and create a cruiser on top of the class.

You see the Kusari dessie is limited mainly to Kusari dessie guns which are pretty specific. This gives us the ability to balance the Kusari Destroyer separately from the Cruiser line. the only issue comes in with power and multiple "Non-conventional-Kusari weaponry. Easily fixed if you create a destroyer variant of each weapon (Razor, solaris, pulse...) we have the models done already, it is merely a matter of shifting the scale of the weapons around a little.

This preserves the size of the Kusari Destroyer and Orphan's it from the rest of the Cruiser class.

I concur. It has to be scaled up to _at least_ twice its current size.

Sounds like a lot more work than what this would be. Firstly you have to create a bunch of new weapons only to be used by the Kusari Dessie, edit ini files to make it so it can't mount guns not made for it and create an entire new ship to be the new Cruiser.

All I will need to do for this adjustment will be upscale the CMP and SUR using FLModeltool, and you will have a complete working ship in less than a minutes work.

Except, of course, for the Dragon Cruiser - which also has to use the same guns...

It is also common for Hatchet commanders to use twin Razors firing forward, and a single missile on their rear-firing turret.

Still keep it as the smallest destroyer/cruiser in Sirius - but not obscenely small as it is now.

Another way to think about the Hatchet is this:

Imagine the ship wasnt Vanilla - and a modeller were to submit it as a new design. What would be the response?
"This ship looks really cool - but its WAAAAY to small man!"

I challenge Developers to go on record as saying the Hatchet - at its current size - would be accepted for inclusion if it were a new model.
