Can I, with a pirate ID, dock at a lawful base or planet without fear of being sanctioned for it?
I ask as I want to pirate in one area, nick loot and flog it in another system.
For example:
I actively pirate in Rheinland, where I've made sure all the lawfuls hate me, then go and sell the loot in Kusari where they don't (eg Diamonds at Kyushu).
Is this considered a :nono:?
I don't want to do the " **enter number** million tax" route to earn my money. I want to shoot out NPC cargo pods and hoover up what drops out, or get PCs to drop part of their cargo for me. Sadly the only ship with CDs and a big enough hold to make this really viable are the Rogue or Corsair GB and I can't afford one. Yet.
And I'm not trading to get one 'cos I's a pirate. Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Or is the Junker ID the way forward? I'm just resistant to that route as I'm not a Junker, I'm a pirate Jim lad. And having a NPC ID like the Bundschue or LWB doesn't work as I ain't makin a political statement here, man.
Anyway, what's your thoughts? I'm sure this has been asked before, but I got freaked by the load of unrelated threads when I was trying to search.
As far as I understand, a lawful character docking on an unlawful base could be considered nonRP, but an unlawful character docking on a lawful base... isn't that where drug smuggling comes from ?? (In other words, I think its fine... if the base allows you to dock, that is)
Just sell the loot (Diamonds or whatever) at the Hogosha base in Kusari, not on planet new tokyo. Also, if a smuggler ID in the next version allows you to pirate, you could use that.
I personally don't see issue with this... IMO it would work just like normal freelancer.. If you pirate in a specific area, like this example, Rheinland.. the authorities and shipping companies there will hate you. Now if you go to Kusari and your a good boy.. They won't shoot at you. But if you get scanned by a police officer or military personnel in Kusari and they discover your ID is that registered to a know pirate (even in foreign space) Don't expect to get away without getting shot at.
I've done it and I dont' see a problem with doing it, especially if you carry the stolen goods over to a base whose faction has no love for whoever you pirated. Call yourself a privateer and enjoy:)
And kudos to you for nicking loot as your primary income source. I think it is a fun way to pirate, but we need ships more suited to this task. I'm strongly hoping the powers that be will add a CD launcher to the Kushan and the Turanic freighters, maybe even bump up their cargo holds by a hundred units as well.

to subjugate the enemy's army without doing battle is the highest of excellence."

If you were robbing Rheinlanders, I'd see the Kusari taking exception, since the cargo was probably meant for New Tokyo anyway.
That's far too technical IMO. The odds that they would check every transport for one. Second it's not like each container is specially marked, and if it was, a good pirate would change the markings or just move the contents to new containers.
Remember that piracy in Sirius is really better termed as extortion.
Your victims conitnue their trade run.
If you are pirating in Rheinland, your victims will continue on into Kusari and inform the cops of your actions. Don't be expecting to dock there.
However, if you went to Liberty, the traders won't be there to inform the authorities, who probably wouldn't care anyway, due to current international relations.
Morrigan, I completely agree about the lack of good ships to pirate in. A gunboat does feel like a bit of overkill IMO. I love the Kushan, but it really suffers for lack of a CD, though the stats say it has one :nono:. Bit of a typo there!
Dark, I'd never expect to get away with it, I just hope to! I ain't much good at dodging..........:$
