Admin Notice: Discovery Server Donations

Ever since our server has existed we have been able to operate with out needing donations.

To improve service and reduce the number of outages, about 4 weeks ago we moved the server to a rented computer in a data centre. It has taken a while but the server finally has settled into its new home and seems to be operating properly. The upside of being hosted in a data centre is that we have better server availability, the downside is we need to pay for it.

We need a fairly significant amount of money to operate our server; a bit over 1400 Euro (~1700 USD) per year. Although this seems like a large amount, split between our many members I think we can afford to operate it.

I ask that people donate 5, 10 or 20 dollars/pounds/euros (we accept any currency) to our paypal account:

You are welcome to donate more or less. Don't worry if you can't or don't want to donate, this is completely optional. For your money I can promise our best efforts to keep our server working as well as we can and use the money as carefully as we can. You'll also get your name added to the list of all of the other people who donated.

We have built up a reasonable cash reserve over the last few years. We are currently funding the server from this reserve but I would prefer that we do not use all of it. Many thanks and lots of kudos to the people who contributed to this over the years.

Regarding the forum performance. Igiss is aware of the problems and we will do something about this soon.

I'm hoping that we might raise enough to operate the server for 12 months. If we succeed at this, you can expect another one of these posts in about 12 months time. If we don't, we have backup plans.

i dont like it and will not use it...
but i will donate if theres another way...
like on my old server 10euro per month...
so 6% of the money needed every month:D
until september
then my Salary will be increased and i maybe pay 10%:P

Just a sugestion that might help with the fund raising.

How about everyone who contributes gets some sort of special item, like a special light or something equally as usless but unique to people who donate to the server?

At any rate, it doesn't matter if that happens or not.

If I can figure out how the 'paypal' thing happens, I'll put a few $$ towards costs.
