as the caption says - its a concept. - the kusari explorer model isn t a bad one actually - but may ( or may not ) deserve a little facelift to gain a little popularity.

this concept is based on the kusari train ( lower solar panels ) - and based on the idea of a civilian explorer / GB hybrid.

so it maintains its rather large size - and roomy hull - while at the same time tries to look sleeker and less ancient. i tried to avoid straight lines on that model - so everything is supposed to be rounded and sleek - but not too much so it still fits into freelancer.
it has certain similarities to the bretonian percheron ( unintended ) - which i don t find too troubling actually.

the skin is supposed to be rather grey/white - with a twin red sun on each side ( not easily visible, but there are sunbeams on each side ) - the idea for such a model just came to me yesterday, so i quickly modelled its mesh before i d forget about it.... at that time, i found it quite classy. ( of course - looking at the general shape, it most certainly is a SNAC magnet )

anyway - nothing for 4.86 - rather some time later.

Well it looks a helluva lot better than the current model.
Though, apart from the fins... I'm not getting Kusari from it at all.
It's rather Bretonian looking, what with the bulbous shape.

Well since its an explorer ship, I'd think instead of having more roomyness in the hull, perhaps you could add in some high tech (looking) scanning equipment on the hull for a start. I like the roomyness of the ship as well, seems to suggest that theres a lot of space for cargo, which means that this ship could go on for long trips in space. The cockpit looks kinda large, sort of the like a deck, but I'm not sure if its small enough for a GB because that Deck looks like it could hold dozens of people, rather than just the dozen people that most gunboat crews usually have. I can see this as an explorer frigate however.

yea - maybe its too much to make it a two story bridge section - but it looked so hunchbacked with only one bridge section sticking out.

about the kusari feeling. - most kusari ships are patchworks of very fragile elements joined together. - they re almost all rather thin and small ( well, we all know it )

this one is big - and thats why it doesn t feel like kusari - place it next to the military kusari GB ( or even the destroyer ) and it ll feel like.... well..... like it feels placing a bretonian gunboat next to those two.

question is - would kusari build all their ships alike? - the GB is meant to be generic - and that "generic-ness" must shine through so it cannot be claimed by a faction ( samura / kishiro ). so in order to be generic it just features the core elements of kusarian craftmanship ( solar panels ) and goes a different way.

so its mostly a precaution. kusari tends to restrict things more than others ( by the lore ) - but if its supposed to be "free for all" ( also bretonian freelancers ) - it shouldn t look too much like the military line of ships.

Can you do a terribly shoddy texture job on it?

Having said that, I am not feeling the Kusari vibe from the model.

Perhaps not replacement, but a Civilian GB/Explorer made from a Renzu-like corporation based in the Taus?

nah, not a separate GB. not when we already have one. - but i ll see what i can do about the "kusari feeling".

can someone describe ( in your own words ) what a "kusari feeling" is like - that is DIFFERENT to the military line of ships?

One is getting put in? Lovely.

Crew are contained in the middle, not in front.

Less bulk.

Wings at an angle, not straight down, also, more "fan" like, but I think this is achieved with textures.

Also, the structure of most Kusari transports are not smooth, they are straight-lined.

Let me drink a bit more and think and get back to you.

I think the current model, minus the big strut-like wings on the sides, is fine. If the struts were removed it'd be perfect. If the ship is going to be remodelled, I think a GMG shipline influence would be best to go with, since the GMG are the faction that uses explorers most nowdays (as far as RP is concerned - kusari rarely uses them, the GMG uses the explorers extensively to search for new mining locations).

But, as a side note... these models you keep making you admit are not for 4.86, yet there are models you have made for 4.86 that have issues that still need to be resolved, and since there was recently an announced time limit on completing 4.86 models/remodels, wouldnt it be a better application of time and effort to solve those issues before making other models?

I just dont want to see some of your other models not added to the mod because nobody spent the time to correct their bugs and issues.

there are two issues i have with your statements..

first one is - you associate the explorer to a faction - a fact that i expressly try to avoid. if a ship is supposed to be purely generic. - trying to tie it to a faction - which can ... at least passivly execute some kind of regulation on it - is detrimental.

so - no... the explorer should not be associated with the GMG, but remain purely the produce of a no-name company in kusari. - otherwise - the GMG might start to complain to be robbed by their own ships.

second issue

thats my business, aint it? - whatever bugs the ships still have will either result in the ships NOT being added ( which is my responsibility ) or result in the bugs being fixed ( which is also my responsibility ) - ships being presented here - AND ships being submitted are nothing but an OFFER, they are not granted, nor promised - nither by me, nor by the dev team.

so if i decided to let go and have the ships that were uploaded rot in hell, - so be it. thankfully, a few helping hands have assisted with some of the ships to perform the tasks i wasn t able to do - but then again.... thats not the communities business but only the business of those that offered help and uploaded fixed files. ( which i am extremely grateful for )

ok so you want to redesign the KuEx, that is fine

but remember the word "explorer"

your model looks like a battlefreighter, like a kusari clydesdale on steroids. I think you should give it more antennaes, parabolaes, maybe some more "compact but tough" feeling.... its meant for exploring, researching.... your model looks like its meant for tradeing and going deep into space, find some huge lumps of resources, take it home and sell it...

The current KuEx has some antennaes and parabolaes that gives it that explorer feeling.... maybe try merge the two of them?? Your model certainly look more kusarish, yet, the current model looks more explorer like

EDIT: OH AND JINX, CANT YOU PLEASE USE BLACK BACKGROUNDS???? WHITE ON WHITE MAY LOOK GOOD, BUT YOU CANT SEE DETAILS WITHOUT USING A MICROSCOPE
