So I notice that whenever I see screenshots posted on the fourm, it's always the ship view. I am kinda split on which view I like to use more, I really want to use the cockpit view, but I feel more comfortable with the ship view. Now I have two questions,
1. Does anybody else use the cockpit view?
2. Is there any diffrence in game performence in terms or system resources between the two. ( is one better with slower computers? )
Perosnally, I find the cock-pit veiw a little bit better for aim, and especially when fighting NPC's
However, the ship veiw is a lot better for most situations,as it gives a better veiew of everythign around you. Cockpit veiw is good for screenshots, and making it look more realistics.
Cockpit view really helps with piloting bigger ships like the Train or Large Train through asteroids. Ship view can help you hit targets more in your peripheral range. Ship view is also nice for looking at your pretty rig. As far as performance goes I haven't noticed any drop in FPS switching between the two.
Because the ship camera has a slightly wider view, you can turn slightly faster when using it.

Zelot: Actually, when I was about to kill a Damsell in distress using cockpit view, I took a screen shot which I since posted in the NPC Names thread.
1. Yes. I normally use the cockpit view (CTRL+V). When I first started playing Freelancer in 2004, I tried the third person view, but I thought it was awkward and really hard to shoot targets directly in front of my ship, so I quickly switched to cockpit view. However, I sometimes use turret mode (H).
In fighters and gunboats I will always use ship view. It gives me a better understanding of what's going on around me. For cruisers, it depends, but I normally use ship view. And for battleships, I tend to almost always use cockpit view. It makes it easier to see the big ship in front of you.

Retired A very big thanks to Dark Oddity who put my signature pic together
I rarely use ship view... almost 90% of the time cockpit view. Make's it feel more realistic. For fighting in my Cruiser... cockpit and turret view are both used...
I normally use ship view. I need the peripheral vision since I'm almost always in a fight with more than one target.
I changed my settings so that it doesn't show a cockpit when I get into cockpit view. I use this solely for screenshots, and it looks really nice to have a clear picture without any "windshield supports" getting in the way.
It pretty much all comes down to preference, but I'd say most people I've played with are more comfortable with the default ship view.
is it possible to mod cockpits, too? - all ships rather use the original cockpits - and especially for the battleships, it often doesn t really fit.
most people switch off the cockpit graphics anyway, i guess.
one thing that i don t like about the cockpit view is that the weaponfire obscures the vision depending on the weapon. when you chainfire a diamondback for example, the whole screen shows pretty blue bubbles, but you ll loose track on the enemy easily.
