When i say ghost ship, i'm not talking as in "Collect souls, see-through" ghost..
I mean a derelict.
A ship who's crew was killed, maybe through radiation, or some freak accident, and still drifts, or tries to fulfill its last command, I.E. recon, or gathering, something along those lines?
I was thinking about this for a while last night, and this is the scenario i came up with:
A cruiser, doing recon out in Alaska, or some distant systems, goes missing.
It is found drifting out of the minefield, guided by AI protocols, heavily damaged. It makes it to Norfolk, then stops.
Naval vessels find the craft, and proceed to board it.
Upon exploration by the boarding crews, several crew members are found, dead and bloody, killed by some sort of large creature.
The boarding parties make it to the bridge, where it appears a large massacre has taken place, shells and ammunition litter the ground, and the bridge crew are killed in much the same manner as the other bodies. Blood covers the bridge, and several pipes and bridge components bear large stab marks, as if by a spear or blade.
Upon examining what computer equipment is working, the crew finds out most of the history of the vessel...but before they can recount it, the thing that killed the entire crew finds them there.
Suggestions? Comments? I'd like to try this out just to see how it turns out.
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
Quote:Ghost ship may refer to a fictional haunted ship, or one found adrift with its entire crew either missing or dead, or one which has been decommissioned but not yet scrapped.

This sounds like the basis of a horror movie... Tell me when it's made, i'll go to the cinema with some mates to watch it.
Edit: What would teh basis be for the ship ? i mean.. is it controlled by it drifting with AI guideing it randomly or is the monster controlling it ? I don't get where the ship would be for player use, it's more a good story.. ( i think)
Yes, but MAYBE not so extreme. Say, a rheinland ship lost in the von rhoe belt, succumbing to radiation, situations like that. It would basically be a giant, moving, player-controlled wreck...though it could contain all manner of things.
@ Chenzo
Well, it would either be guided by the AI, following the orders set into the autopilot before the captain's death, or drifting under its remaining impulse engines, guided by gravity or collisions, or many other different forms of control that could be applicable...but for this case, yes, it'd be the AI/Autopilot carrying out its orders.

I see.. but again.. what would it's goals be ? You surgested the last given order/objective.. so.. that's rather limited to patrolls.. I guess scareing people along the way ?
It will only be so long before ingame you would meet a bomberspam in which the end result is : no more ship or monster..
Well, maybe, yes, patrols, recon, any orders that are given out through the navy? I'm only getting started with this, it could take a little time to flesh out, but i believe it could bring some interesting roleplay.
Also, a little more thought for a derelict situation,
Maybe a GLaDOS situation? AI corruption ending in the crew's death?
