Quote:The fate of the Sol system itself was largely unknown and it's people where presumed to be under Coalition control until the late 8th century, when edge world astronomers discovered Sol's name-giving G2V-class star turning into a bright flash of light. While it is generally agreed upon that this event has turned humanity's cradle into a barren wasteland, the reasons for this are currently unknown.
Is this official Discovery lore? And if not, why is it there and has not been removed? I'm talking about this:
when edge world astronomers discovered Sol's name-giving G2V-class star turning into a bright flash of light.
Ye, general consensus is that Earth is gone, oocly, in RP most people assume it's gone, under Coalition control, or don't even know anything about it at all.
Still, a handful of people around here still insist on making stories where they are trying to find Earth again.
the 'long intro' is ,as far as i know, established as discovery lore. the one where a nomad-like looking superweapon turns the sol star into a supernova and utterly frakks the entire solar system. one ship then moves after the sleeper ships, arrives at manhattan and forms an organization from which order springs up later (i think).
iRP, people dont know this. at least most of them doesnt.
Earth is now but a myth, a story told the children of Sirius, the telling of the great journey and sacrifice their forefathers made for freedom from oppression.
Liberty may secretly know it, but only at the highest order, Nomads may know of it, maybe even The Order. Debatable.

Is this your own theory or Discovery vanilla? I find it hard to believe that in 23rd century people would send sleeper ships without having some kind of a databank with them. Your regular joe-shmoes probably had the entire Wikipedia stored on an iPhone.
But that's not what I made this thread about. Once more, I'll direct your attention to this:
Quote:The fate of the Sol system itself was largely unknown and it's people where presumed to be under Coalition control until the late 8th century, when edge world astronomers discovered Sol's name-giving G2V-class star turning into a bright flash of light.
Is this Discovery cannon or not? Can a developer confirm it?
That Sol is destroyed? That's canon I'm quite sure of it. Or do you ask that if there were two astronomers who claimed such? Why shouldn't? Some claim that there is a planet inhabited by bipedal apes, others hallucinate about some blue telepathic jelly.
The only question is, how well-spread are their theory.
The Solar system as we know was destroyed not long after the exodus of the sleeper ships by Nomads. Apparently they just appeared out of nowhere and caused the sun to supernova, wiping out the entire system.
This was in Freelancer's long intro which never got released due to Microsoft's financial and timescale problems, along with some missing features in the game that were originally going to make it even more awesome.
As far as I know the long intro is completely canon.
