How big is the system map?

I would like to know how big is the system map really - where is the edge? And how long is the distance ships can go beyond the system map displayed per F6?

There are some guys who realy appreciates the monotone drifting outwards while chasing someone (or in some instances - running from them). Noone could ask for a better chance of undisturbed rolepaying. Most give up after a couple hundred kilometers after listening some of my characters childhood stories.
