ok i've run into this a couple of times so far.

when people are carrying cargo with them that cargo adds to their current worth and in turn raises their level a couple of levels

when i come upon these people and see them as legal shooting level, i consider them fair game. but of course when i blow them up they lose that cargo and drop back down below 30. which of course makes the me have to try to explain to them the situation...which takes precious time away from my limited years on earth.

just wondering if there is anyway to warn these guys that cargo can increase your level and put you into a possibly dangerous situation?

Well, I know it now. Thanks for the info.:)

It is always better to avenge dear ones than to indulge in mourning. For every one of us, living in this world means waiting for our end. Let whoever can, win glory before death. When a warrior is gone, that will be his best and only bulwark. Beowulf

Yes I was there last night when you killed a player who was level 31 with VIP's in his hold and he dropped to level 28.. It does happen. I told the player this in NY after he died it was his cargo that had put him to LVL 31, I know this because I was at the NY/Texas JG and scanned him as he passed me. Evidently he did not beleive me and spoke to you as well.

I myself got into an incident when i attepted to tax a level 35 player who was camly sittin in space after a battle with an SA officer which I won.. Being a Xeno terroist I decided that al least some RP was required and demanded 200 k (I thhought that was reasonable) from the player.. I was then subjected to a barrage of OOC insults from 3 players in the system who claimed I shouldnt be taxing/attacking players below lvl 40

I was in an eagle and lvl 54 because I had a fair amount of cash on char, on discussion with BULLDOGNK he advised me to stick to players of my own level..

Maybe thats the best advice I could suggest Monstar, allow people lvl 35 and below a bit of leeway and let them live..

Have fun :D

I hope you're pirating these poor level 31s with a cheap HF or VHF. Otherwise, shame on you for preying on noobs.

well, he s a madman not a pirate, isn t he? - anyway, its not not cargo taking them to that level, its the other way round - its loosing it that lowers the level. so - a lvl 31 with VIPs on board must have been 31 when he got them - ( unless he beamed htem on board ) - or at least i think it is that way around.

when players pass the level 30 - they become cautious anyway. first time you can actually run into player hostilities - entertaining:D

Spear: I can understand Bulldog's advice that you stick to attacking players of your own rank, but I know that attacking players ranked 31-39 is legal according to server rules. However, if you are a Xeno terrorist and have a Xeno ID, I was under the impression that you're allowed to kill other players (being a terrorist), but not pirate/tax them, since the Xeno ID prohibits pirating. You seem to be violating server rules. Am I missing something?

Jinx: I think I've seen you post elsewhere that you don't do much trading, so I can understand why you and others think that buying cargo shouldn't raise your rank. Buying an inexpensive commodity that is expensive elsewhere can raise you multiple ranks instantly. Start a trader character with enough money to buy a CSV. Fly to Planet Cambridge and buy a full load of luxury food (140 units at $160 = $22,400). I bet you will go up at least two ranks, because the game increases your net worth based on a good (but not the highest) selling price. Selling that cargo at Manhattan will generate a substantial profit (e.g. 125 units at $1200 = $150,000 - $22,400 investment = $127,600 profit). The opposite is also true, as I've sometimes dropped in rank because I purchased an expensive cargo that can make a small profit going a short distance. Also, I've sometimes dropped in rank when selling a cargo, because the game had temporarily increased my net worth (while I had the cargo on board) by more than the profit I actually made. Anyway, the bottom line is that if a player is trading and not paying attention, he can easily reach rank 31+ without noticing.

First of all, I disagree with your assumption that carrying cargo increases your lvl/rank. The only cargo that can raise you credit worth is your extra equipment because, they already have a set price of which your commodity cargo does not.

This credit value and rank raise (commodity cargo) can only be determined once you've sold your commodity at whatever best price you can find.

I've checked this out many times over the past several years of playing Freelancer and it hasn't changed yet. Your rank and/or worth cannot be valued until you have sold your "Commodity" cargo at best price, for this value has not been predetermined as the prices for the extra equipment have, ie... ( Weps,MineDroppers,Missiles Launchers,Missiles,etc...) only these items will have a set price that will not change. These items WILL be calculated into your worth, even before you sell them. There is no way for the game calculator to predetermine how much or, where you're going to sell your commodities at.

This has been a steady observation of mine and I'm convinced that your lvl/rank cannot be determined when you purchase a commodity until AFTER you've sold it.

I would also like to add: the more equipment you buy, taxes you pay and/or repairs you have to make, will cause your lvl/rank to drop some and make it take even longer to surpass the previous lvl you are at. If you drop 2 lvl's in rank, you'll have to work for at least 3-4 lvl's in order to get those 2 lvl's back before you can reach the next lvl on your ranking.

But, you don't have to listen to me. I'm only a lvl 90 player and have watched my lvl/rank go up and down for repairs and loaning out credits for many, many hours in this game.

And I agree, pick on someone your own rank and let these noob's get a foot in the door so you have a real challenge to contend with. Quit being a 6th grader beatin' up on a 4th grader.

What you are missing is that as a Xeno I am unable to demand CARGO... Extortion is fair game and necessary, as I understand the rules at the moment I am unable to kill a trader UNLESS I give him the chance to pay... Pirating is not extortion and I am perfectly within my rights to say "your money or your life"

Am I mistaken admins?

Can I just point out here, Dreygon actually has a Terrorist ID, not a Xeno one. That gives him a little more
latitude with his roleplay ...
