Well lads time for another one of my lovely scenarios!
In this weeks scenario, we have "Generalized IFF's"
We currently have ID's for what is coined, 'General'; as in ID's for mercenaries, pirates, freelancer and AI. What can be annoying is that your IFF may not really reflect your ID, which can cause RP and 'pew pew' issues in some scenarios.
In this scenario, the new IFF's are introduced where a player can either 'set' their IFF with bribes or commands. The method is awkward for me to figure out without new factions to my knowledge. But let us for argument sakes put aside the method involved for this system.
What would happen if we get new IFF's that can link to the generalized ID's that can be found in game?
Hm... So you mean like, having a mercenary, trader, slaver, pirate, etc. IFF? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Realistically I would see no reason to do it since the Freelancer IFF covers the spectrum. An indy trader, for instance, doesn't work for a company and is thus freelancing his freight services. Same for Mercs and stuff.
I dont see the issue with adding mercenary, pirate, trader, slaver, miner, etc. IFF's. Just make them available as bribes from connecticut or somesuch - you buy a bribe (make it more expensive than the others, perhaps) and it gives you that IFF?

My limited understanding of the FL code is that there would need to be actual factions in-game with the corresponding IFF.
Hmm, maybe a 'dud' system with some bases that link to other factions as bribes? e.g. Pirate bribe from all pirate factions, Junkers and Zoners?
Generic house IFF's would be nice, though. How 'bout just an "Unlawful freelancer" Iff, if you want to show up as red, instead of white / green. Stick an asteroid base near barrier gate, and have it sell the pirate/unlawful freelancer bribe.

There's a "Fugitive" IFF that can only be gotten through admins. No NPCs or Bases, it's only used for once character afaik - That is, Mon'Star, who I've never seen in game. If a single character has his own IFF, we should have Pirate IFFs and Civilian IFFs. Merc and other such IDs are covered under Freelancer IFF. But the Civvy IFF would be sirius wide, and independent traders (those with the ID) could use that as their IFF if they wanted to.
