Well I'm flying an Orca gunboat now on my BHG character and I would consider myself primarily a gunboat pilot. So I was thinking while flying my new Orca through Menchester how nice it would be to have the option to replace my forward gun with another turret.

Upside, Anti Fighter Turret Replaces forward cannon

Downside, Lack of forward cannon reduces anti-capship ability
Downside, Turret that replaces forward cannon has the same fire arc (Not really a downside, but a "balance" to keep it from being too powerful.

EDITED FOR REWORDING: The only modding that would need to be done would be to the gunboats, to enable their current Class 7 mounts to be able to mount the class 7 gunboat forward cannons, as well as mount a class 8 gunboat turret.

Thoughts please? I really like this idea and it would bring in some more customization to gunboats... Forward cannon, or forward only turret?

The problem we had before this was that you would be able to mount two, three or four forward guns (or as many turrets as there were on that model gunboat).

No no no, I think you are misunderstanding. I don't want to change the class of the forward gun. They are always class 7.. I'm talking about the mount on the ship itself, change it to be able to mount both Class 7 and Class 8's.. Therefore you can only mount ONE forward gun, however still have the option.

I think i know, what DO is meaning. It may work with other Gunboats (Kusari, Liberty, Rheinland), but not with the Orca. The position of the forward gun is between the pontons. Normally the forward gun should fire only straight ahaed. Atm, for the Orca, it has an rotation angle of 45 degree to both sides (is shooting through the hull). This should not be and a simple turret without the ability to revolute does not make sense.

For other GB's just asign the same hardpoint to different types of weapons in the shiparch.
Thats the techical aspect.

I'm not a fan of DO's idea. Remind, the mark of a "Gunboat" is the forward gun. All others without a forward gun are normally considered as Corvettes or Sloops.

With the cerbs as they are you might as well dub um 'Pocket Battleships'

I understand where you are coming from and do agree.

I do agree, the Orca's forward cannon does need to be fixed a little. Change it's arc to fire up/down as opposed to side to side, based on how the pontoons are positioned. Just my opinion though.

I do agree that a turret that is limited to even a 10 degree range of fire is still useful in the right circumstances. I would just like to have the choice is all.
