What about bombers and fighters? I'm sure that a researcher doesn't take a huge truck to go explore a forest. And note that researchers aren't only the guys dressed in white and with geek faces.
They're also explorers and adventurers. On field research, anyone?
So... can I use fighter or not with Researcher ID?

You're quite wrong there squire.
Fighters can be used for anything and everything. Blowing stuff up isn't usually it's primary function, remembering that most guns are for defense, not offence.
Flying, Exploring, Fighting, Racing, Swimming, Mining, Researching etc etc.
Just use a fighter, I doubt you'll get sanctioned. I'm sure every ID is intended to have Fighters on it as they're the default ship class.

This, for every fighter, save...the Starflyer, Startracker, Ki, Saishi, Moonbeam, Basalt, Falchion and Spatial.
Maybe more, but these were made specifically for reasons other than escort and dog fighting. Personal transportation, surveillance, mining. All valid for researchers

You forgot the Maffic.
I'm fairly sure the OP didn't have those in mind. The Spatial I was expecting someone to bring up but that's specifically made for deep space exploration and I don't consider it a "fighter". Now, I'm not quite sure what kind of research you can do inside a cramped cockpit but I guess that's where imagination comes into play. Stick to freighters if you want to be taken seriously would be my advice.

You know, the 'Research' part does not essentially take place in the Ship and on the spot. I used to fly a Researcher IDed Kaichou, and InRP, the Ship was just used for collecting samples, not processing. The collected Samples would later be studied in that Researcher's Lab on Canaria. But yeah... Sold the Ship when I noticed Researcher ID doesn't allow Fighters.
The Researcher ID was a mistake. A weird byproduct of the old days which carries little use or purpose beyond allowing someone to have a butchered Freelancer ID which says "Researcher" instead of "Freelancer".
It's dead broken conceptually and carries almost no practical weight.
People seem to like having it around, but I've no idea what to do with it that wont result in an ongoing stream of threads like this beyond making it a near clone of the FL ID, like every other generic ID really.
Furthermore the presence of the Researcher ID seems to create a passing interest in the hearts of the whimsicle that they would like to see similar IDs roaming about. Cartographer, Jelly Fish Farmer, Kusari Citizen and so on. Essentially a vertiable cornicopia of IDs which are somewhat maddening in number.
Or so I have derived from the multitude of PMs and threads I've seen on the subject over the last few months.
