I keep getting told in game that the rules for the NY system have changed. Apparently normal PvP rules are in place and OOC is no longer allowed. I have asked where this rule change is posted, but nobody wants to help me. I keep getting people telling me to stay IC. I can abide rules, but I would like to read over them so I understand them well. I thought I might try my luck here. Can anybody please tell me where these new rules are posted?

Also, on a side note, I know I'm new, but I would like to express my opinion on this supposed rule change. I don't mind the PvP, but I thought that allowing OOC in NY was smart. This allows new players (like myself, to some degree) to ask about rule details, etc. If somebody doesn't understand quite how a rule works, they can drop by the NY sys and ask an experienced player. Again, I'll abide by rules, but just thought this was a good idea. Thank you.

It's always best to ask questions via PM...however as NY is the starter system I think using prefixes like "ooc: or /// are acceptable in NY and should be tolerated even if there is a lot of it..

EDIT: BTW ooc stands for out of character and /// is a fast way to indicate that...in case you didn't know or other don't

I noticed this was your first post. Welcome to Disco.

Changing NY into a RP/PVP zone has been cussed and discussed for a very long time. Yes it is a place for new folks to learn the rules and such, which is why there's a rule that you cannot kill players under level 30.

The reason we need NY open for RP is that most days nearly 50% of the server population is actually in NY and are not playing the game. They are in chat room mode or doing other OORP (out of role play) activities. We have 128 slots for people to login and play and have actually had that many logged in at once. So for people to come here and go into chat room mode is taking up a slot for someone that would actually like to play the game. Also, for pirates (like my characters), its annoying to see all those high level traders (levels 50+) sitting around NY. In order for a pirate to role play, he needs traders to pirate. Kinda hard when they're all hovering above Manhattan and I can do nothing but fly by and watch.

I'd also like to add, though it doesn't have much to do with new players, the PvP server is good for chatting and jousting as the entire Galaxy there is OORP.

The rules haven't been formally changed yet, because the admins aren't sure about the new version of FLhook....so, they may have to change it back.

Actually, technically the server has always been strict roleplay, just it was never enforced in NY because the
PvP was turned off, for reasons long in the past and which I to to be reminded of.
Now its back to where it used to be ...

Thank you for your replies! I have a much better understanding of the NY situation. I probably have read about the /// OOC comments. My apologies for not remembering and abiding by this caveat. I will do so in the future.

Just one suggestion... Perhaps a sticky can be put at the top of the rules forum here regarding what seems to be a trial alteration of the rules. That would have helped me earlier.

Thank you again! I enjoy the server and look forward to reentering said alternate reality!

If I'm not mistaken, Connecticut still exists OORP. That could help.

Couldnt we change the starter system to connecticut. NY is the hub of much trading and military activity for Liberty space and as such needs to be RP at all times IMO. Changing the starter system to connecticut would give new players a place to sit and ask questions without the inevitable "||your not in RP" backlash.
