It's a Wednesday morning in the small town of Burūtaun, on the Northern Continent of Planet Honshu. Naoko and Tama Arakaki are about to have their first child...
"Congratulations Mrs. Arakaki! It's a girl!"Naoko, the father stood on the other side of the room. "Hai, that's great. Better if it was a boy."Tama looked at him in disbelief. "Naoko...that is a horrible thing to say...""I am merely saying how the family legacy cannot be continued with a daughter!""We..have a beautiful daughter...now stop being a baka-""Wait, something's wrong...""W..what?" Naoko simply stands on the other side of the room, not doing or saying anything. "The child is silent, and breathing is ir-radical. Nurse, we have to get this child to ICU, stat!" The nurse runs into the room, picking up the child, and taking her to ICU. "Naoko...do something..."
One Year Later
The child, Yuki Arakaki, managed to make a full recovery in a matter of weeks. Once she was able to go home, everything was fine, and Yuki seemed to be developing at an advanced rate. However, a few days after a checkup to see if the child was still alright, the child's doctor found something wrong.
Tama was in the kitchen fixing lunch. Then, there was a knock at the door. "Hai, one second!" Tama walks to the door, opening it. In the doorway stands Suzuki, Yuki's pediatrician. "Arakaki-san, may I have a word?""Hai, what is wrong Suzuki-san?""It's Yuki-chan, something's...different. You've noticed, hai? Well, our last scan showed above normal brain activity." What does that mean?"We don't know yet, if you would like, we could take Yuki-chan for awhile and find out""Take her? Where?""Well, there's this place on Kyushu. It's secluded, but they would be able to figure this out."Hai....if you think this is best...""There's no need to worry Tama-san, she will be in safe hands"
September 22nd, 806 A.S.
Planet Kyushu, string of islands around the equator
Yuki grew up in the research facility she was sent to at the age of 1, she is now 11. Not knowing her mother very well, who stayed on Honshu, as she could not afford to move with her daughter. She knew her father even less, who got in trouble with the Hogosha a few years after her birth, and 'mysteriously disappeared'.
It was a typical quiet Kyushu morning in the housing part of the facility.
"Yuki-chan! Time to get up, it's getting late!" Suzuki pounded on the door leading to Yuki's room. *Yawns* "Hai, coming Suzuki-sama!" Yuki quickly jumps out of bed, and throws on the closest pair of pants and shirt. She then runs to the door, and throws it open. "Alright Yuki-chan, today we have the day off, so what should we do?""Hmm..how about the beach?"*She smiles* "That sounds like a wonderful idea! Now go get your stuff ready and we can go!" Yuki ran around the room, gathering up everything she could think of needing. After 10 minutes, she was finally ready. "Hai, let's go!" Yuki and Suzuki ran out the door, and across the facility grounds, eventually finding themselves in the research wing, closest to the exit. They walked silently while walking through, but Yuki's curiosity finally got the best of her. "Hey, Suzuki-sama, why am I here?""Where, this research place?" Yuki nods. *Sighs* "Because you showed advanced brain patterns when you were an infant, and they brought you here to see why." "And what have they-" Suddenly, a bomb strikes a nearby building, and both are thrown to the ground. "Attention all personnel, Blood Dragons are attacking the facility, take cover and prepare to defend!""Yuki-chan, are you alright?!""H..hai, what just happened""A bomb, quickly, we have to go! Follow me!" Suzuki grabs Yuki's arm, pulling her from the floor, and starts running down the hallway. "W..where are we going?" "My ship, we have to get out of here before they completely destroy this place!" They turn down a corridor, quickly finding themselves outside in the bright sunshine. A couple of the surrounding buildings lie in ruins, and firefights can be seen across the island. Eventually, the two find themselves outside Suzuki's Drone freighter. Unknown to them, a Dragon was following. "Yuki-chan! Get into the ship now! Before the Dragons come!""Too late" Stood behind them was a Dragon in full battle gear. He held a pistol in each hand, both aimed at Suzuki. "You should know better then to experiment on children, and you shall pay the price for it." Suzuki pushes Yuki into the freighter, spinning around and drawing a pistol from her jacket. She aims the gun at the Dragon, and pulls the trigger, hitting him square in the chest. The Dragon falls to the ground, managing to hit Suzuki once in the stomach before slamming into the dirt. Suzuki falls backwards into the ship, the door slamming shut behind her. Yuki sits against the opposite wall, staring at Suzuki in disbelief. "Y..Yuki-chan.." "Hai....?""That button...console, big and green. Press it..." Yuki nods, running over to the console, and pressing the green button. The Drone lifts from the ground, and soon finds itself in space, a direct course for New Tokyo.
August 5th, 811 A.S.
Planet New Tokyo, city of Osaku
5 Years have past since Yuki left the research facility. After watching Suzuki die infront of her, Yuki has become an emotionless shell. She has moved from foster home to foster home, never staying in one place for more then a month. After being sent to a family in the city, she was sent to school for the first time in her life.
Yuki wandered around the school for a few hours before she was due for her first class. She walks into her classroom, taking a seat infront of a tall boy with black hair.
Etsuko, sat in a desk in the back, squinting to see the plans for the day."Eck, another lesson on the emperor's history... how boring this class can be sometimes..."He said to himself as he heard someone sit behind him, "Kai must be here", he thought to himself.
Etsuko turned around to talk to his good friend, but instead found a girl taking the place of Kai."Hey Kai-", he started, but instead rerouted his conversation, "-Uh konnichiwa, you must be new, I'm Etsuko..."He finished awkwardly.
Yuki looked up from her desk at Etsuko. She nods, then speaks in a monotone voice "I'm Yuki." She continues looking up at him without any expression. Noticing how Etsuko was uneasy with her staring, she takes a book out of a bag she had slung around her shoulder, and starts reading.
Etsuko looked around,"Kai must be skipping this class..." He turned to Yuki again, and looked at her book briefly before saying,"So what part of Kusari did you come from? Or are you coming from another class...?" He fiddled with his thumbs nervously as he tried to converse with her.
Yuki looks up from her book. "I was born on Honshu. Raised on Kyushu. This is my first time going to school." She continues looking up at him. "Where are you from."
Etsuko looked out the window, it was raining again, sometimes he got tired of the rain."Well, I was born in Osaku, I have not been around alot really, but I want to see more places. My parents expect for me to join the Naval Forces, so that sounds like a good idea...." He looked around for Kai again, no sign of him.... "How is it on Kyushu? I mean, I hear it is a nice planet, but I have never been there myself...." He looked her in the eyes intently.
"It's sunny. I've only lived on one small island. It was the Navel Forces that put me there." She watches as the teacher enters to room. "You grew up here...that means you know your way around. Maybe you can show me."
Etsuko smiled at this, "I would be delighted to show you all the sights that are around here."As the teacher took up a position at her desk Etsuko hurriedly said, "And we can find Kai, and teach him a lesson. Oh and one last thing, this is a REAAAALLLYYY boring class, and don't fall asleep, the teacher once kicked a desk in half." Etsuko laughed to himself as he turned around and started to pay attention to the teacher.
