Well, I finally broke down and financed a new car since mine decided to drop it's transmission....again. I'm not putting myself through that again. I went out and literally looked at over a dozen cars. I had a short list of what I would like but then, the real litmus test took place......my son. He stands 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 260 pounds and his legs are LLLOONGGG! Anyway, he didn't fit into any of the new cars I wanted and didn't fit into most of the used ones. He was jamming up the steering wheel or crammed into the back.
Surprisingly, it was a 2010 Kia Rondo that he fit in and it's what we got. I hope no one here has to car shop in the way I had to. Of course, I can take some solace in knowing that by the time I look for another one, he'll be out of my house!

You'd expect such a massive vehicle to have more leg room...
A Kia. I must say that's somewhat unexpected... Asian cars tend to have less leg room xD

Oddly, I've never had problems with leg room in any of the cars I've owned.... and to date they have all been 'asian' cars.
From memory;
1st car. Mistubishi Colt. 1964 model. Got it 2nd hand and it still had the plastic on the doors! Made out of real metal as in you could lean on it and it wouldn't bend. Motor blew up.
2nd car. Datsun 240k sedan, 1974. Written off in accident. Nobody died! yay.
3rd car. Datsun 240k coupe, also 1974. More fun than the sedan, auto trans spat out, so we swapped the 'salvaged' 4 speed from the sedan into it. Note: Manual 4 speed box with auto differential = awesome.... on this car anyway. Traded it for the next car.
4th car. Toyota Camry. Import. Can't remember what year it was. Nothing special, nice to drive tho. Ended up selling it for scrap a couple of months after getting the gearbox overhauled. Motor broke and it was too hard to get parts for. Sad.
5th car. Mitsubishi Lancer. 1995. Stock. My first front wheel drive. Auto, goes like a rocket, uses almost zero fuel. Put a decent sound system in it. Not a 'DOOF DOOF' one:P

My brother has an 80-something Toyota Crown, imported Luxury VIP car. We call it the pimpmobile. xD
You hear it's V8 a few blocks away, and then the 15" sub one away.

I tried to drive my sister's car once, a Toyota corolla sedan, 1981. When I tried to take off I coulddn't release the clutch properly because my knee kept hitting the steering wheel. A few gear grinds later I gave up. I understand completely the need for leg room.
As far as Kia's go, I've only driven a 2004 Kia Pregio for work. Good on fuel, just had problems with the starter motor, immobilizer, side door handle, central locking, brakes, brake light switch, indicator stick, radio volume knob. Other than that it's a reliable van with good leg room. :D
Actually, Doc, I completely understand and sympathize.
I'm 6'2" and weigh about 275 - yes, I'm getting fat. My personal car is a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT pickup, and to get into my wifes car (a 2003 Chevy Impala) I have to tilt up the steering wheel and move the drivers seat all the way back.
Of course, the key thing is maintaining them now. The Impala has 90K miles on it, we bought it brand new, and it's been paid off for a year now. I bought the Ranger used with 40K miles on it (now it has 90K), I'll have it paid off at the end of this year (2011). We spent $700 on engine work on the Impala last year, and I'm putting the Ranger into the shop next week while we're gone for probably $400 worth of engine work.
The big thing is to not have a car payment - it's amazing how much extra you can save up when you're not spending $300 or more a month on one of those. So is it the latest and greatest flashy vehicle? Nope - but you know spending $700 a year maintaining a vehicle (plus of course your usual oil changes, which I do myself) makes a heck of a lot more sense to me than spending $4,000 a year on payments - at least for a while, anyway.

Damn, Exile, you're huge even by my son's standards!
But yeah, I didn't have 40 thousand bucks to drop on a top of the line SUV nor would I have so it made car buying a hassle. Our other car is a 2000 Pontiac Montana. Plenty of room in that but I'm always fixing something on it.

Yeah, Baka, I would expect the same but we've owned a lot of Asian cars here for the reason that they run forever. Anything domestic I've owned has been nothing but trouble.
And did I mention that my old 86 Saab 900 is a car I miss very much? Best car I ever owned.
European and Asian cars are a bad choice then, considering that the Asian ones are designed for small people on small roads, and in Europe, the roads are generally smaller too.
American cars however, much bigger, as America is freaking huge, and the roads are massive. You're bound to get more leg room in an American car, than a foreign one.
One of the cheapest cars in the world, about 3000$ new :lol:. But fat chance your son will fit in that, considering he's probably larger than the car xD
