Over the year or so I've been around I've noticed a HUGE number of random people doing really random crap under the banner of this or that faction. I've seen IMG pilots trying to claim Omega 7 as their own domain, Rheinland Military cruisers claiming to defend New Berlin by locking down the entire system and shooting everything else on sight, and people flying around as floating brains.
Now it's a given: people play this game to have fun, and they can come up with random stuff to their hearts' content. But, on multiple occasions it's clear that some things simply wouldn't be done by certain factions; Rheinland waltzing into Sigma-13 and claiming its annexation and the like. So where is the line drawn for other people to put a stop to this on their own? Shouldn't we be allowed to apply roleplay punishments for roleplay actions?
Example:
I'm MND. There's a Rheinland cruiser claiming that it's protecting the planet by blasting all civilians. I can try to report the guy, but that won't stop him. And I'm an intelligence operative; what would an intelligence operative say to this? He would probably arrange for the cruiser's disabling, or destruction, given that it's a genuine threat to the populace.
But for whatever reason I've seen this frowned upon, despite the fact that it's a nonsensical non-canon thing to do. Others say only official factions have the right to blast their indies for doing such things, but not only are official factions not always around, and not always on the ball when it comes to FR5s, but I've also seen admins stopping official factions from preventing indies from doing such things.
So what's the deal? If a competent, roleplay-minded player with some kind of roleplay authority bumps into nonsense, shouldn't they be able to put a stop to it?

Purge him.
If you feel like being careful, get an SS of him saying he's shooting Civilians or of him shooting civilians.
The deal is simple. As long as the indy player stays within the limitations of the ID, no OORP action will be taken. IRPly that cruiser should be met with a primary fleet battleship and blown from the skies. The floating brain you mention should be ridiculed. And the IMG fellas you mention have since banded up with the Hessians, a faction more in line with their actions (which took some doing from multiple ends).

Independents range from 70 year olds to 10 year olds, or younger.
We allow everyone playing this game the ability to get the largest and most powerful, usually the most diplomatically damaging, ships.
We let 10 year olds fly battleships.
It is a inevitability that something strange will happen.
The best idea is to not make a fuss but to instead quietly stomp on it and ignore it.
Independents are a chaotic force, something which most factions recognise. Exagerating the impact of a single indie chars actions is a little dickish by a faction, but possible.
Gentlemen rules really.

That's misrepresentation on your part, -most- indies I meet are very good at what they do, and they know why they're doing it (and more importantly, why what and how their character will do it). The problem is, attention is always drawn to the problematic indies, people will -always- focus more on the bad, not the good.
All I have are indies, and so far no one has complained OORP about my RP.
This is not factionlancer. Indies have thier own RPs, and can do them with a bit more freedom. Dont you have indies? We have a bit more freedom InRP because of no faction tag.
People who go that far deserve to be purged with antimatter.
And look at two Corsair Ossies pwning the Order for no reason. Im ready to grab my friends and get them back. So far, no one has complained about them OORP.
If everything out of the ordinary for indies was bad, then why hasnt Joe started comolaining about me annoying New York all those times? And we cant forget when I tried to bomb manhattan...no complaints, only RP jailtime.
As has been stated before, not all indies are bad, but we tend to see the worst ones flying the most noticeable ships, which happen to be capitals. Now, frankly, I think you have every right to blow that Cruiser up. I honestly doubt any sane person would actually get mad at you for doing that.
As for the community, we need to stop making assumptions. Yes, there are terrible indies, but we can atleast give them the benefit of the doubt until they prove us wrong.
