Well guys, for the nth time, my skype 5.0 had managed to abuse my computer, by dedicating to itself about 70% of my CPU time (Dual core, 2GB RAM, just to know)
So, I have now decided to use the older version, 3.20163, which tends to be much less resource hungry.
I rember that it has tendency to crash once in a few days, when some characters that aren't supported by it appear in some chatroom, but it's better than slowing down my entire computer so much that desktop window is loading for 15 seconds...
It's the only old version I found that works stabile on Win7 X64
When doing something that requires a large portion of my CPU time (such as playing FL), I just exit Skype. Although your idea might work better for me.
They should have hired the guy that programmed that thing in google that completes your search text before you finish typing, but instead they hired Boss.

Only possible if you run Vista,I believe.Sometimes,Skype has given me some headaches but mostly in terms of lag and late messages...None so drastic as to eat up 1700 MB of ram. That's just...too much.Try CCleaner.
Sucks to be a weight on the wrong side of the brilliance-insanity scale.
I've got Win7 X64 installed. And no, skype doesn't grow nuts with RAM (ab)use. It did that earlier. Now it just goes banzai on my CPU time when I start a voice call.
I don't get it really. First skype (1.0) worked on P1@133MHz and ~32MB RAM. This piece of **** doesn't work properly on our modern beasts. So, what gives?
