Gallic Metal Service S.A. (GMS) was formed in 314 AGS (398 A.S.) by merging several mining companies operating across Gallic space. Over the ages, she expanded her influence across Gallic space, laying claim to any and all exploitable space resources by virtue of daring exploration and careful corporate absorption, most notably, Arcadia Materiaux Distribution. While smaller mining companies do operate in Gallic space their share is no more than 5 percent of the market.
With 10 percent of its stake controlled by the government and no executive representation from the same, GMS is one of the few Gallic corporations that isn’t heavily influenced by the Crown. The Company is generous, providing medical, housing, and education services to its employees and their families. While work on mining operations planetside and in space can be very dangerous, high salaries and extensive social services are attractive enough for many colonists who seek a better life and have no intentions of joining unlawful groups.
The GMS's relatively low level of government control has afforded them a nearly unprecedented level of autonomy. Autonomy carefully maintained by gracious affability to the crown and careful internal management to avoid any cause or need for "offered" supervision by military of political bodies; resulting in a company well versed in taking care of its own, personnel and problems alike.
The recent breach of the barrier has afforded a unique opportunity for a select few members of the company, to scout, claim and exploit those resources which might be discovered within a relatively unknown Sirius.
The bearer of this award has proven diligence in traveling throughout Sirius in the name of GMS and Ze Arch. Their dedication to braving even the harshest of environments is to be commended.
Name: Gautier Roch Alias: “The Director” Gender: Male Born: June 26, 691 AGS Age: 42 standard years
Background:
The High Director of the Gallic Metal Service, simply known as “The Director”, Gautier Roch has had a long history with the company. After attending the College of Sciences on New Paris, he landed a spot in the Mining Division at the age of 18 standard years. Roch worked under Henri Fournier doing ore extraction in the fields of Burgundy. Competent at the job, the young miner did his work and earned his pay. After two years behind the yoke, Roch was promoted to the position of one of many field leaders, calling the shots for a small mining party and its associated transports. After several more years, Roch was given a Materials Management position, overseeing the production facilities in the Dauphine System. (719 AGS)
In 724 AGS, Roch was promoted to Director of Borderworld Operations because of outstanding performance in the Dauphine operations, finding new sources of revenue and leading projects developing more effective communications systems for use by teams in the field. The new D-Ops for the Borderworlds held that position for another nine years before he was finally promoted to the position of High Director in a 6-1 vote by the Executive Board and recommendation from his outgoing predecessor.
When the Gallic Borderworlds were sealed from the Core and Gallia announced itself to the rest of Sirius proper, Roch’s first project was to send scouting parties to the Taus. When these parties returned with news of copious amounts of Beryllium and Niobium ore right outside their doorstep, Roch presented a plan to the Executive Board to cut a deal with the Council in order to gain passage through Languedoc. The details of this deal are largely unknown, but what resulted is the Council making a public announcement regarding their approving the GMS’ traffic as a way to “ensure the masses that we mean well”. Internally, GMS adopted an anonymity policy in order to protect its employees and families from those who would seek to upset this balance.
At present, Roch is working with the newly-formed External Operations sector to expand even further into Bretonia and Kusari. The Director owns a 25% share of the corporation and uses his influential standing and technical knowledge to both increase GMS’ profit potential and ensure the safety of its employees.
Name: Simon Pelletier Alias: “Jean Pierre LeBlanc” Gender: Male Age: 31 standard years
Division Assignment: Mining
Background:
Born on Planet Nevers in the Burgundy System in 702 AGS, Simon Pelletier has always known a humble life. Both of his parents worked as miners on Alesia Station for GMS, and although they did not live luxuriously, there was enough to scrape by. At the age of six, his mother passed in a factory accident.
Simon’s father and he both relocated to Alesia Station. Pelletier attended the company-sponsored school on station and graduated in 720 AGS at the age of 18, after which he took a job within the company. He currently is a Field Supervisor in the External Operations Sector. While he has proven to be an effective leader and has kept morale up among workers under his supervision, Simon tends to be too hands-on, often letting the business end slip.
Name: Renard Mersones Alias: 'Jean Pierre LeBlanc' Gender: Male Age: 24 standard years
Division Assignment: Mining
Background:
Renard grew up with a rather sinful lifestyle. Drinking, womanizing, gambling, and brutish behavior became the norm for his day to day life. Wake up in a gutter stinking of cheap champagne and fish and get tossed back into another gutter in the same state. But with all unhappy stories, it came to a rather happy ending.
During a raid of a simple bar, he encountered a roving group of miners who belonged to the GMS. Being intoxicated, he proceeded to insult them, which led to the inevitable ass kicking that came later. Instead of being left in another gutter, he found himself in a seminar titled "Shooting Rocks 101".
