.. Well, earlier today I decided I wanted to find a CODENAME. A certain CODENAME, though - The ARCHANGEL.

So I floated along to the wreck and got one, and returned later to get another.

I had been using a pair of Improved Debilitators and a pair of Thor's Hammers on my Avenger for quite some time now, and when I learned there was a gun that hit harder I decided I wanted it. I don't mind 2.00 guns, they aren't bad at all for certain scenarios, especially if you're one of those oddballs who likes having a free gunport for a missile or something fun along those lines.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I'm unimpressed with the ARCHANGEL. In my opinion, it's worthless in comparison to the other 2.00 CODENAMEs (though I haven't seen the EXCALIBUR up close, so I'm not sure how good it is in contrast).

ARCHANGEL's stats;

Hull: 1400
Shield: 700
Range: 699m
Projectile Speed: 600m/s
Refire: 2.00
Energy: 315

THOR's HAMMER stats;

Hull: 1350
Shield: 675
Range 699m
Projectile Speed: 600m/s
Refire: 2.00
Energy: 270

You'll note that they are basically the same gun with the exception of one very critical element - energy usage. There's not much to be gained by using an ARCHANGEL over a THOR's HAMMER, but quite alot to be lost. I'm not sure as to why this is, exactly - I assume things are done this way intentionally to prevent VHFs from pairing ARCHANGELs (it's not really viable to do unless you intend to relying on just that pair of guns). The ARCHANGEL is obviously Bomber friendly, but is there anyway we can get that energy usage knocked down abit..? It's not really that important, but it really would be nice to be able to use these guns on a VHF with a pair of shieldbusters (Improved Debilitators, for example).

I suppose I could go with lesser variants like the Advanced Debilitators, but then again it doesn't really seem worth it when I can just keep the Thor's Hammers and be dandy. Currently though, I've found that the ARCHANGEL just really isn't worth mounting on a VHF at all (unless it's a Bomber) simply due to the fact that it uses so much more energy for no real substantial gain at all (or so it seems).

Well its more about graphics and aim...:)for me my codies are a choice of tracer-looks... i dont care about the stats, except for the very basic codies, every codie is in some way balanced with others... i packed 4 diamondbacks for months before swapping them to iron hammers, they deliver a bigger punch and drain a lot more. but i can still use them as effectively as my previous ones...

Now im flashing 4 cerberus codies matched with 2 tizzies.. i hardly go out of power in a pvp and i eat hulls without much trouble... its about how you handle them, not the stats...

use 3 weapon groups..
1st: All guns
2nd: Hull busters
3rd: Shield busters

This way you can limit the drain to your need, if his shield is down, no need to fire shield busters, better to wreck his hull, then his powerplant is what i allways say...

Its all about the pilot, as is anything you encounter here.

I have a quad mount of Archangel codies on my Falcata due to the Duel infernoes, cause I need all the hull busting power I can get. They are fairly effective agianst battlecruisers on down, and if you can aim it its like a mini torpedo agianst fighters. And yes, they do slowly drain my energy even on my bomber.

my merc bomber currently packs:

4 archangels,
1 inferno
1 supernova

same here, i dont mind energy consumption. thats why i got 4 arches instead of 4 excals. the excals are better than arches stats-wise, cuz they do 1390 (i think) damage, and use much less energy.

but, i like the tracer on the arches, so i got em.

plus, they do quite pack a punch on fighters and caps alike tbh.

i got 1 inferno, and 1 supernova cuz tbh, its a VERY good combo to kill both fighters/caps.

the thors hammers are nice too, but i dont like their tracers:P

For me the best codes are the ones that don't leave a trace... it's much easier to aim those.

So I like
Thor's Hammer, Blue Blaze and the like.... and don't like the other ones.

My primary fighter carries this

2x Reaper Mk V
2x Codename Archangel
2x Codename Solaris
1x Salamanca Turret

So yes, despite the Archangels being on my fighter, I still have lots of power because of what I fly. I got them in exchange for a couple codenames and some money, but now I'm very deadly because of the damage output they have (they rival Cruiser/Destroyer turrets). And yeah, no shield busters because then I would have next to no power available on my power plant. I have the Reapers and the Salamanca to save on power because they're neutron based.

They might use heaps of power, but because of their damage and projectile (blue particle cannon pretty much), I'm going to keep them on my fighter. Sure I won't be able to fire as long as I would with other codenames, but when I do hit -- I deal a lot of damage.

For me those large "rail"-gun type are the most beautifull one... i can still aim with them. With my cerbs i can aim a bit better, cus there quicker, but i still feel that awkward feeling that my refire is changed....
