Obviously its a game mechanics thing, but if we think about it in RP, why are they so much more powerful then a player Battleship?
One thought is that they are simply a different class of ship from what we use, but that doesn't work if we pay attention to the infocards and lore. (Just look at the SP stationary battleships and how old they are)
My personal thought is that, in a way they are like the siege tanks in starcraft.
When mobile they are about as powerful as what we use, but when they reach a location they want to "camp" they shut down their engines and divert all power to shields and weapons.
I'd explain why players can't do this as simply... it takes too long to set up. (Say a week to divert all the power conduits) During which time, the battleship would be vulnerable to attack.
So while our battleships are highly mobile, their weapons and shields are average compared to the versions who cannot move due to their engines disabled.
Anyone else have any thoughts? I know this is a rather pointless thing to debate but...sorta interesting to think about... (And is a distraction from the mining stuff)

Have you seen the Isis? It's not called the "Hand of God" for no reason. Stationary Battleships gain much more refire if more people are nearby, not to mention they have an unlimited power core, allowing for 4.00 Mortars... or higher. >.>

One BS missile knocks out weapons for about half a minute.
Remember that stationary battleship strength is relative, depending upon where you are. Liberty stationary battleships are pretty darned weak, considering they're supposed to be battleships. But that's because it's the starting system, too, and would be a throwback to SP.
Isis is a special place that's somewhere beyond ridiculous - it's amusing to watch 10 Ossies and Gebs all huddle up behind Isis so that it's guns can deal with interlopers. (Yes, Tommeh, I'm complaining about Isis huggers for the 98732942321493th time...)
Their problem now is that we've figured out something really special - get Isis ticked at our ship, then manuever so that when it's shooting at us - they're in the way. It's so neat to watch them get chewed up before they even know what's going on. And of course, you watch them sit there and camp, and we get 3 or 4 bombers sit off in the distance, and launch SNAC's at max range... boom....

Stationary battleships can't aim worth a damn, which makes them useless versus snubs that maneuver a bit. They don't fire their primaries continously, instead preferring short bursts with those. Stationary battleships are more or elss as good as the amount of battlerazors and especially pulse guns they have.
Want to end battleship camping? Give the stationary BS a missile turret. The friendly fire of those battleship missiles will... "discourage" hugging those ships quite effectively.

Correction:
Isis is the Hand of God One.
Apophis is Isis...with a Mortar instead of a Light Mortar.
You seen Apophis fire? Any core caps get in range, they are toast.
Makes me wonder how powerful the Ravager and Fate's Hand are. FYI: that are the non-existent stationary Ranseur and Spyglass in that system that doesn't exist.
I've never seen their non-existent weapons in action.
