As a writer I create rough drafts most of my characters using the same basic outline - when it comes to FL, the faith/religion field always gets me thinking. What faiths do people of the 9th century AS follow? Have the old faiths of pre-Sirius Earth been carefully preserved, has polytheism made a comeback?
I remember seeing mentions of Amaterasu in the GC lore, meaning Shintoism is still alive and well. Similarly I saw mentions of Catholicism in reference to the Outcasts..what do you all think?
Hmm, a valid question indeed.
Seeing as those old-Earth religions have survived, it's viable to say that others have survived, though likely with smaller followings.
However, it's probabe that other religions might have sprung up too. In terms of lore, it's fairly open to interpretation.
But it appears to be mankinds instinct to search for something more than their material surroundings. Even in the Freelancer universe, I'm sure there would be doomsday cults and various hippy movements.
I liked to leave you with deep and moving little speach about how religion effects our collective souls and helps people make sense of their part within the grand scheme, but I won't.
The Corsairs and Outcasts are almost certainly entirely Catholic.
Actually, when you think about it, the Pope would probably have been on the Hispania.

Of course. How else does one explain the televangelist channels on the Neural Net.:P
I'd like to think that polytheism had a resurgence as part of an "Earth Cultural Heritage" movement or something - you tend to see all sorts of strange mystery cults during periods of cultural transition. The Hellenistic period, our modern day, etc.
The outcasts most certainly would have at least a minority as Catholics, if not the vast majority. Mine are. The corsairs, not so much IMHO.(mainly a geographical stereotyping on my part, as the outcasts have been more Italian than Spanish in there role, and the corsairs coming from ....everywhere. You are free to make your own judgement on this) I did meet a corsair once that was a practicing Jew....rather impressive RP if I do say so myself. The GC and Kusari in general are very religious, although who the deity/deities are depends on who you ask.... I would think that Liberty and Bretonia would be mostly atheist/agnostic, with an ENORMOUS amount of different religious minorities.
In my opinion, adding religious beliefs to a character only increases the RP potential. All of my characters have this side to them either on paper or in my head at least, and often make decisions based on there religious standards/beliefs.

I think it's safe to look at all the major Houses of Sirius and say "Hrm, which religions are/were prevalent in those old Earth societies. And then to say "Hrm, those religions probably survived" seeing as quite a few other aspects of the old Earth culture of each of the Houses survived.
That's my two cents, but to shorten it even more:
There's no reason why the old Earth religions couldn't have survived, are they as widespread? dunno, maybe, maybe not, but they're definitely still around.

Indeed, Amterasu is the Chrysanthemum's "goddess" if you can call her that. It's not directly tied to Shintoism actually, as far as any of us RP it at least. It's more a passing mention... sort of like how we use "god bless you" or "god damnit". A lot of the time it's not really religious, though I would perfectly understand someone taking it as a strong part of their RP.

If so, ALL of them need religious education.
