Hi there, relevant people to whom this is adressed.
As you may or may not know, I'm the Ageira President.
What you probably don't know is that I'm in a bit of a pickle at the moment.

Ageira currently has no command structure. It is a two-levelled pyramid with myself on top and everyone else underneath. This desperately needs to change.

I'd like your advice as to establishing and implementing a chain of command so that it's not up to me to take care of every single tiny thing that happens related to us, and so that everyone is not reliant on my sole presence. Even a (possibly overly) serious person like myself needs to have fun from time to time.

As an alternative to replying to this thread, I'd appreciate it if you sent me your thoughts by PM, or add me on Skype if you so desire.

There was a sig here, once.

I think the best man to talk to, is Jeremy Cassell (aka, Michael Trenton) forme president and founder of USI. He has built the current chain of command and it has lasted for years. I'll send you his contact in skype.

It's important to select your leadership from members who are prepared and willing to RP on the forums, engage in forum PvP and also do menial work like bounty payments, recruitment etc.... Yourself and two reliable helpers at the most is all that's needed. If you don't have at least one helper you will get swamped if a few things occur at the same time.

Well, at IC| we got the CEO, the VP, and others who are dealing with other stuff. For example, I am dealign with the GC, RHA in diplomatic realtions and I am responsible for the bounty board and loans, others are dealing with house diplomatics and so on, the CEO (Darthbindo) and the VP(Russell) are giving us alot of freedom with the stuff we do, only supplying us with the obvious no-no and the okay-to-go.

Corporate structure is described the best in the USI and GMG so far. Take also a look from Cryer and ALG faction statuses and check out wiki, perhaps. That'll help you well to develop some ranking structure.

Cryer has plenty of ranks, but actual democracy, btw. And that works rather well.

Well, as for Ageira, I think you should have some chief engineers, heads of research, security officers, train navigators, station staff... How to fit that into structure? Not sure.:P
While noone himself would be doing Ageira contracts, contracts would go to the board of directors. One representative (formal "diplomat") would write the answer.
Possibly the board of directors would also have representatives of other companies, which're important business parthners to the Ageira (USI/IC, possibly large clients like the GMG), but they'd not make up majority of directors.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with corporate structures myself, though.

By the way, did the Ageira try to develop some relationship with the BMM, aside from Havoc bomber? That'd be good direction, methinks.

EDIT: Also what ProwlerPC said.:)

Ageira currently has no command structure. It is a two-levelled pyramid with myself on top and everyone else underneath. This desperately needs to change.
Why? This structure keeps things simple.

You could assign a few positions for people to focus on specific tasks. Resource aquisitions, Gate/Lane parts delivery administration... or you could divvy it up by region (Bretonia/Kusari/Rheinland/Liberty). Latter probably works best in Ageira's case, gives every person a group of contacts to focus on.

IMG has a 3 tiered structure basically: Guildmaster (top), Directors (responsible for their field), and Members (anyone else basically). We assign specific positions based on people showing an interest. For example, Jack Henderson got very active in Dublin specifically - so we assigned him a position of "Dublin Coordinator", which while it holds no formal rank, has RP value in assigning him to be the go-to guy for Dublin ops.

Feel free to use either suggestion:)

Back then DHC assigned leading positions instead of a command structure or "ladder". It was divided amongst Transport fleet, mining fleet, security, public relations, board of directors and its president.

Transport fleet was in charge of anything transport related and keeping track of trade contracts.

Mining fleet was in charge of anything mining related testing fields and assigning inrp new directives to miners, ideally he would have been in charge of the diamonds barge but the 3 of us did that job.

Security was in charge of escorts/patrols, paying bounties and training escorts

Board of Directors president was the guy with the final word(CEO). Any relevant or major decision goes through the CEO, and low importance ones are not rerquired to be approved by him. example, a trade contract would need the approvale of the CEO, while escort assignments or "memos" wouldn't. That way the is relieved from excessive work and paperwork, while keeping control of the faction.

Finally there was public relations and board of directors, which are mostly oorp departments with a rp image.

Board of directors is like a council, where the guys with the leading position discussed stuff, voted, agreed to things and such.

Public relations is a guy in charge of dealing with the other factions, before the discussion with them was transfered to the respective leaders or the board for discussion, he is the the face of the faction most of the time, and in the case of DHC, an overpowered arrogant jerk:P

Well the structure could be a bit cleaner and better explained but that's the basic thing, if you want more help just pm me

Here at OSI we keep it simple.

We have the Board of Directors and everyone else. The Board consists of all leadership within the faction. Each Director is given an area of responsibility. Director of Human Resources handles recruitment, Director of Trade handles role play having to do with trade, Director of Security handles security issues in role play. We also have a few Directors who are called Advisors who have no formal role as of yet, but are free to respond to things directed at OSI in general. While they don't have a formal role as of yet, they are still the same rank as the other Directors. A quick over view of our structure

Stygian - CEO
Daedric - Co-CEO
Empty - Director of Trade
Gheis - Director of Human Resources
nunchakus - Advisor
Stygian - Director of Security
Dourden - Advisor
Paddy - Advisor

When Gateway Interstellar was getting started, it had two divisions: Trade and Security. Each division has a head and a co-head. The Trade Division head was in charge of deciding what trade routes people could run (needs an excellent understanding of corporate RP for trade contracts, etc.) and handled negotiations regarding trade (became more important when the mining mod came out). Security head managed security effectiveness and gun negotiations. Co-Heads helped them with these decisions. Discipline was handled in a council between the five folks.

It might be different now, but that's how it started. Overall it worked out very well. The most important thing is that the 3-5 leadership people give a good example of activity and attitude and everyone gets along well.

Best of luck to you.
