Ok, first let me say i understand the rules and do not purposely break them, but people make mistakes. My friend was threatened by another player the other day because he forgot to type // (ooc) in the system chat dialog. All he said was a joke to a very large and very rich trader about loaning a large some of money to him. The trader responded with a chuckle and all was well. Then, some dude threatens to report my friend for not using //. Why go this far? Is it not a bit ridiculous to escalate a simple RP violation to extreme measures.

C'mon, RP is important, and without it, the game would be no fun. But being threatened to be banned over a simple incident is retarded. The biggest problem I have is the way it was handled. It is one thing to say "// for ooc in system please" It is a whole other thing to say "//You know I could report you for that right."

Please people, show some common courtesy and most of all, common sense. If you are polite, the problem goes away without incident. If you are a buthole, you agitate other people. Which makes playing this game not fun more? Accidental bad RP, or Rude players.

If your friend was using OOC in system chat, marked or not, he broke the Discovery Rules. OOC is not to be used in system chat (see my sig).

Then again, quoting rules in system annoys the hell out of me too.

you "should" stay in role as much as possible. however its hardly a matter to fuss about - unless someone babbles in ooc like all the time. if it was a single joke in ooc - no one should really care. ( provided the joke wasn t insulting for someone else )

too much ooc in a system sometimes makes it impossible to actually roleplay. and it has happened quite some times that ppl were oocing a lot, and when someone started to roleplay - there were comments like "get a life, don t take it so serious".

someone shouldn t go so far as to threaten someone with a sanction, - no matter what problems there are. one can silently make a report if one feels its the right thing to do - or just swallow it and move on.

If your going to act out of roleplay, do it in group/private chat. Not in system. I think the rules made that very clear. *Refers to Preatyre's signature*.

Indeed. If you need to resolve an in game issue, do it over private chat. If you want to chat, use Skype or Xfire or Teamspeak or AOL or any of the probably hundreds of programs for that purpose.

If you want to make an OOC joke, use /l local chat. Transmits to everyone in your scanner. I don't make or enforce the rules my friend, I'm just telling you what will happen.

I agree that immediately responding to a perceived minor infraction with a rather harsh threat isn't the most appropriate course of action but nevertheless it will occur on occasion. All you can do is not stress it and explain the situation, as most people will be understanding. After all, the main point is to have fun so always remember to be:cool:about it.

Nicely said CJD. Too many people are far to willing to go running to admins with "reports"
I had misunderstanding while Role playing. I said Id report to the authorities someone was taxing. I ment the Rhineland millitarry but offence was taken as he thought I was reporting his gameplay.

I had no idea that there was a "grass culture" and one slip gets reported, please think before you go running to the bosses, make sure its worth reporting, you know, things like cheating and hacking. Trying to get someone sanctioned over a small mistake is petty.

No one's gonna get banned for that. I think it's more a matter of players' personal tolerance of ooc. But rule quoting, especially in system chat, and even worse, sanction quoting is wrong. I abhor that probably just as much as the rule breaking. If you must, MUST, tell someone about breaking the rules, do it privately and take screenshots as proof.

If it's the guys first time doing it, I'd just let it go...but if you've encountered the same guy over and over again then it might be time to report him. Give people a chance guys.

I gotta throw my 2 cents on this one...Too many players get their "kicks" off of reporting every single little thing to the Admins.. Nobody is perfect..(even the ones who report these minor things).. If we all just work things out together, then the Admins wouldn't have to spend 1/2 of their time on nonsense such as this and concentrate on more important things..
