I think a number of problems could be fixed if players lost their ships when they die;

Such as:

Tech permissions:
The problems with tech permissions - such as being unable to use wreck guns without permission, and with the new rules of irreversible permissions, people sometimes using the tech of those they are hostile to - would be solved if when you die, you can only re buy guns if the sellers are still friendly, simple sense. This would also mean that tech permissions wouldnt have to be overseen by admins, saving them time, the players could police tech permisson themselves - someone using your tech without your say so? blow them up, and they dont have it any more, adding more RP for all.

Re-engaging

If you already suffer the penalty of losing your ship, I see no need for the system/re-engaging death penalties anymore, so thats more work off the admins, less sanctions, less to complain about, all g.

Caps vs Transports

As caps would now be more dangerous to fly, the "no shooting transports" rule could be done away with as less people would be flying them, and those that did would be taking a big risk.

People not caring about being destroyed

We've all seen traders going "I have no cargo, kill me idiot" which is very unrealistic, if they stood to lose their ship, they would act more like someone actually would in that situation. On the other hand escorts are made artificially ineffective, when pirates will attack the trader if they are not paid, even if this means the escort can weaken them sufficiently to kill them afterwards. But if the pirate stood to lose his ship, he'd think twice before throwing it away on the trader out of spite, thus giving escorts back their use. And finally many complain about people flying around attacking them on the flimseyist of pretences, less likely to happen if they have something to lose.

Freelancer getting boring/Nothing achieved

When your really rich, after a while freelancer can get boring, you've reached the peak, money loses its value, and your actions no longer mean much - kill someone, they'll just pop up again later. If you lose your ship on destruction your unlikley to get so many mega rich people - as they'll have to spend money buying new ships (thus giving money back its value, which it has somewhat lost in the disco community) - and when you do something e.g. fight off a KNF raid on leeds, you know your actions have actually affected factions, players and RP.

Meaningless Bounties

Paying freelancers to kill your enemies is more like community service at the moment, seeing as it doesnt really help your faction, if the hunters are actually destroying ships, paying them will be worth it.

And many more...

Problems: The 2 main problems I've heard people have with this are:
1: But then if I lost my BS I'd have to spend ages saving for a new one.
2: But then if I died I'd have to fly around everywhere replacing my equipment each time.

So I'll adress them 1 by 1:

1: My first response to both those arguments is Dont Die simple remember in RP you face the danger of actual death as well as shiploss, so act like it.

Additionally I would recommend the division of all equipment/ship prices 3 to take some of the sting out of it.
With this; a fighter will cost you about a mill to set up, a couple more if you want top of the range, and some decent mark 4 armour. Not such a big deal, And it wouldn't necessarily be any bad thing if this reduced the amount of people buying battleships and chugging around in them on their own simply because they have nothing else to spend their money on.

And if this encourages more traders/miners that can only be a good thing, they are the cornerstone of freelancer's economy, the more the better.

Fear adds excitment to your game.

2: I propose making equipment much easier to access, to reduce re-setup times.
Have ALL bases supply ALL the civ stuff - armour/class 9 civ guns/thrusters/ect.
Have every base selling ships, as many as possible so you never need to go far to get the one you want.
This could promote diversity too, not just sticking with the same ship, trying new ships and loadouts each time you die, you may find one you never imagined that you really like.

So what do you think?

No.

FL =/= RL.

Can we not add all the realism?

I spent alot of time with my stuff, and I honestly dont want to rebuy:

Nephthys
Sekhmet
Resheph
Osiris
Guardian
LSC
Raven's Talon
Pytho
Nyx
Atlas

I die alot because I am PvPathetic.

I do not want to lose all these ships and waste time rebuying every damn thing.

Nerf prices?

Not at this cost.

/2cents.

I also happen to like the Archangels on my Neph, Excals on my RT, and Ragnaroks on my Guardian.

No, I kill to many traders. They would annoy me on forums.

This is not EVE.

Adds an even greater need to grind mindlessly. Voted no. I believe stolen tech could be handled inRP, by bounty-ing and FR5ing said characters from your own bases, and convincing allies to do the same character from their stations.

I am bearly hanging on. The only reason I can see surviving at the moment is the money mb52 left on the,Tbay he,said I could use.

If you want this, I want trading buffed x10. No, x20.

I am not liking the idea of losing my Resh, wish has alot of history and roleplay in it, not to mention the fact it was my first cap.

This could cause mass frustration and ragequiting.

Quick.letter change.

Sorry Hone, I'm gonna have to say no on this one.

Reason #1 If people Q_Q over losing cargo or a few million credits, imagine the tears that would gush with much more at stake.

Reason#2 More F1's. More players will just not want to deal with losing their ship. Means more animosity between players and more sanctions. Therefore, much more work for the admins.

Reason#3 Less RP. People would try to stay away from each other as much as possible in order to avoid risky encounters.

Reason#4 Higher chance of suicides. Spend all your hard earned credits on that battleship, take it out for a stroll, and bam, bombers take it all away. Player jumps off nearest building to die a messy death. Ok, maybe suicide is a bit harsh. But, if someone lost that much time and effort, I don't think they would be playing on the server much longer. And I don't buy the argument, Don't Die. Not everyone plays the game to be a pvp god.

Quoting this for truth.

Voted no.

While some of the best RPers are also excellent PVPers, there are far far to many good PVPers that have little interest in RPing. It would enable that group to bully the rest of the server.

imo
