This is no where near the full story. It's just an idea that came to mind.

Gallic Foreign Legion

Tag: GFL|

IFF: GRN

ID: GRN

Ship Type: Ensign - LCDR Sirius Civilian; CDR and Capt Sirius Civilian or Gallia

The Gallic Foreign Legion is the newest fleet of the Gallic Royal Royal Navy. The GHL commissions forgein nationals to take the fight from the doors of Gallia to the docking rings of the Sirius Houses' core planets.

Feeling that the heat of the advancing Kusari and Bretonia fleets was at his door step. His majesty found it necessary for the GRN to recruit outside of Gallia. The only stipulation was that the legian foreign nationals would not enter the core systems of Gallia. Uncertain as who would be willing to fight for the royal family, the GRN covertly sent recruiters through out the entire Sirius sector. If the recruits pledged their allegence to the crown and passed the extensive training requirements and background checks they would become part of the most elite force put forth by the GRN.

Note: We might need permission to use Sirius civilian ships with GRN ID. To start, the merc ID will have to do. Rank is only up to Capt. The GFL takes orders directly from the crown or regular GRN admiralty. Using Sirius Civilian ships will be very important with this niche of RP.

I have no members yet. In fact, I just came up with the idea. So, I need input from other players. Am I crazy? Do you like the idea?

I remember talking about this exact same idea in GRP chat several months back. We all liked the idea very much then, but given that we were completely restricted to Gallia at the time, it seemed like it was better to keep that one in the back of our minds until .86.

I figure once you get into .86 and you've got Kusari as a loyal stomping ground, this could take off if non-Gallic players seem interested.

Yeah, it's a neat idea, definitely. Of course, we're drawing from the actual French Foreign Legion, but it could work given enough interest and some legwork. Good luck.

Its been suggested before. But right now, the King would never allow any non-Gallic people in his military.

Not only the points already made, but no matter how good your RP is, your faction would never be allowed to go offocial under the ID/IFF you suggested.

Call it metagaming, called it good rules... it's here to stay.

(Something about not being allowed more than one offocial faction "house military".

Or this could be a sub group sort of like LPI's SWAT. The difference would be a direct recruitment for this sub group unlike SWAT.

That's a possibility, but you'd have to talk to the honchos in the GRN about it, and Phoenix already indicated that was a no-go. At least not at this moment.

Edit: Nevermind, you wouldn't necessarily need GRN approval. Just remember that FR2 would apply if you were using a GRN ID.

I'll just comment on this little part here, as it's what I feel most sums it up...

You seem to be a little lacking when it comes to knowledge of Gallic lore, for a start, the Kusari and Bretonian fleets are not (and wont be for a very long time, if ever) 'advancing' on Gallia, the GRN, in RP, is almost as large as all four other house navies combined. Also, at the moment (and until .86 comes out), lawful Gallia has little contact with Sirius, and vice versa. There are a small number of Sirian vessels that are permitted to enter Gallia lawfully, but other than that, not many Sirians come into Gallia, and even fewer survive to be allowed to stay by the King's forces.

I mean, this -might- work in future mod versions, where Gallia has expanded into Sirius and has opened its borders, but for now, it doesn't really make any sense, and doesn't fit into Gallia as a whole.

You're right. That's why the merc ID w/ GRN IFF would be useful just to start unoffically. The French Foreign Legion was pretty much paid mercs loyal to France anyways. Sound good?
