EDIT: Hone, its a friggin barge. Escorts wont do anything. Even a solie zephyr accompanied by a Solaris [LN] dread cant stop 1 bomber, and you will have to trust me on this.

The numbers say yes, but only when you don't get pirated 9000 times. Unfortunately when you do come across a pirate when in a barge, they ask for a lot more and you have no chance to avoid them once they enter scanner range. At least in a 5 k you still stand some chance to get away.

Have you considered, perhaps, avoiding asteroid fields? Given how much they suck for the barge.

The route I use in the barge makes significantly more than the corresponding 5ker-trip would.
