Here is a weapon idea that I think should only be mountable on a bomber, but let us talk about what the usefulness of the weapon is.

The current SNAC is a sniper weapons, turning bombers into jousting death machines. It is a fine weapon don't get me wrong.
This weapon idea is meant to be a bridge between the Mini Nova and the Supernova cannons. While the Mininova is meant to be faster firing than the SNAC, its meant to be weaker in terms of power.

Here are some basic draft statistics:
  • Name: Mininova Repeater Cannon
  • Hull Damage: ~40,000 (Minirazor 19,400, SNAC 132,000)
  • Shield Damage: ~20,000
  • Power Usage: ~14,000 (just over double the Mini Razor's 6,400)
  • Refire: 0.30 (Minirazor is 0.33, SNAC is 0.17)
  • Range *Can't compare with FLStat, about above Minirazor level though
  • Speed: 260 (Minirazor is 380, SNAC is 280)
  • Splash Damage Radius 50-75m
From the draft/idea stats above the Mininova has significantly less damage than the SNAC, it is however compensated with the bonus of near Minrazor speed of firing and slightly higher range. One other thing that should be noted is the danger of splash damage, this can be very deadly to both the operator and the target if the pilot is in a joust scenario.

Let's run through a few pro's and con's.

Pro's
  • Faster refire than SNAC, giving the pilot a chance of error
  • Powerplant can be rationed more effectively
  • Can cripple small craft with splash damage
  • Energy based, no ammunition required
  • Great for light to medium bomber classes
  • Could be very effective against gunboat to cruiser classes
  • Rewards users with good aim
Con's
  • Weaker compared to SNAC
  • Dangerous against user in close quarter jousts
  • Slow projectile speed
  • Lower effective range than SNAC
  • Lower accuracy with lower speed
So that is a quick rundown of the weapon, as said stats are easily changed, but I hope I got the idea of the the weapon. A bridge between the SNAC and Minirazor, but due to the splash damage effect, can make it quite dangerous to be used in jousts.

So what do you guys think of this weapon idea for the bomber?

I messed up the calculations for the refiring time in my head. Sorry - I'll use the calculator program next time to confirm what I'm thinking (^_^)

SNAC takes 5,88 seconds till you can fire it again - your "Mininova" 3,33.
SNAC damage is 132,000 - "Mininova" is 40,000 hull damage.

So, after shooting straight for almost 11 seconds, you have the same amount of damage with the "Mininova".
Of course, you could also fire another SNAC then but your weapon draft has some other stats that might be the edge to win a fight ...

Its another way to make bombers uber. Being able to fire against incoming fighters jousting blast every now and then, ohoho, no way. This means each turn you can smash one up my face. And splash maybe, but bomber has hull, fighter has bad day.
