Actualy i have seen some established and unchallenged "Power-RP" that is IMHO much more devastating to FL-RP than Powertraders in Barges or to high Profit on some routes have ever been feared to become, but community seems to see only "Powertrading" as big "evil".

Noone talks about that Corsair make Outcast lose time and again and so Outcast-Players lose motivation and noone wants to play it or Hessians and all theyr "allied friends" rape Miners so intense in Omega7 and Omega 11 that noone is mining there anymore realy (atleast noone in Omega 11 and only few in Omega7).

Now i didnt hear anyone ever complain about Barges in sense that there are no Players left that prefere to trade in a 5k-transport or smaler.

So is this "Powertrading" actualy that source of evil to RP that so many think it is or is this just a hype and there are other established "Power-RP`s" that have far more bad influence on the "Balance" of FL-RP?

What do you think?

Power trader refused to interact with the others . So their existence is not needed, they are just slot takers and mute all guns blazing battleship pilots after the end of the power-trading phase. They dont contribute to the RP environment in any way, they dont benefit the community by their presence, hence they dont exist as anything else then slot-takers. If you need the money in such urgent matter then take a loan, and even if you are in hurry because you need the money you should find time to interact with the others.

Powertrading is just grinding money without even attempting RP. Just ignore everything around you, and trade. Thats whats wrong with it.

This all depends on what you consider to be powertrading. The reason it is presented in a bad light is because the term is used to refer to people who go around trading and do not roleplay with anyone they encounter. They are the kind of traders that just keep hitting the cruise button when a pirate CDs them, or shoots back immediately. People who use corporate IDs without actually demonstrating that company's roleplay or lore.

In short; A powertrader is someone who doesn't roleplay and doesn't contribute to the roleplay environment.

Power Trading is the essence of life on discovery.

no power traders, no money, no happy pirates, no cool battleship captains.

without power traders we would be lost.

The term is used to describe traders who run highly profitable traderoutes over and over.
(Not a bad thing)
The term is used to describe traders who say "just kill me plx its quicker" when faced with a piracy demand.
(A bad thing)
The term is used to describe traders who trade, and don't interact with anyone -at all-.
(Probably a bad thing, but may simply be that their ability to communicate in English is low and therefore embarrassing to them, or simply non-existent.)

From the above, there is one kind that is fine, one kind that is -actually bad- and one kind that could do with some help with communication so that they can improve their ability to RP on the server. Many people on this server began with a poor grasp of English, but improved drastically through practice.

Edit: Just a note on that last one. As a pirate I would stop them, force them to respond, react, and demand a small amount of money. Then when I finally released them, I would give them much more money than I took from them in an ooc reward for RPing. I didn't make much money on my ibn Sinas, but I think they served a decent role. Encouragement to do, can be more powerful than punishment for not doing.

I play one "Powertrader-RP" and i actualy interact allot more in that RP than in many other. Also it seems the Pirates have awesome fun with Powertraders. I entertained more than 10 of them yesterday and they seem to have gotten into extasy even. Also i have multiple Battleships and i still like the "Powertrader-RP" and i dont go more "all guns blazing battleship pilot" than any other "battleship pilot".

i agree ! i don't mind people that trade barges full of cardi or whatever , i DO mind people that are not interacting at all ,
sure , trading can suck with all the cruise disrupting npcs , disrupted tradelanes , and other discomforts , but not talking won't make it more fun.

i think the real problem on this server is people that dont understand a single word of english , in my opinion they deserve a perminate ban because they truely dont add anything to this server , next to capships that shouldnt be there in the first place....

The bold part is what's missing in the first post, IMHO. Hence I didn't vote.
By the definition that is spread around here most it sure is a bad thing since it doesn't encourage RP. If you are playing the "Oshi~! run fer yer life!"-type of trader you can still present that in a roleplay form by typing the according onboard-chatter. Or have one setmsg'd for that matter.

If the definition is that a powertrader is someone who trades as much as possible to gain as much money as possible, it's actually a good thing because it provides ingame activity and hence something others can interact - and by doing, roleplay - with.

Better to have powertraders getting killed by pirates than to have crossdressing catgirl admirals trying to cyber with pirates in local chat.
