I was searching for weapons hardpoints for the prison liner, and I came across a lot of old threads that really made me think, "wow, Disco certainly has changed. I wish I had been here for the ride the entire time, to see this community grow and develop."
Let's learn from the past, Discovery. Because Discovery ought to be about not only creating the future, but discovering the past and the wisdom of those in it.
' Wrote:I'm new to the server. Discovery is just the mod I've been looking for all this time. Please don't ruin it by adding more content (ships, systems, weapons, etc...). Keep up the good work! ^_^
' Wrote:You're mod make flyable all the Freelancer ships who weren't flyable .
I dunno if it's impossible or if you have just forgot but the Rhenan Battleship isn't flyable .
He's not very important but it will can be cool to have him !
Personnally , I'd like to see new commodities in the futur .
' Wrote:Actually there are ships that are not flyable - nomad ships, luxury liner, train, Rheinland and Kusari battleships, but I have no idea (for now) how to remove bugs related to those two battleships.
' Wrote:You can't have a Rheinland Battleship ...
Just the Gunboat and the Cruiser are available .
They cost 14 and 23 millions each .
' Wrote:Hi !
I've found there is not a lot of "Role Play" on the server ...
That's why I've found a little idea to make the game more interesting :
I purpose every week-end , we increase the sell and the buy price of 2 commodities (only) in only 2 systems of Sirius.
The 2 system must will be very far.
That will allow :
- (Humans) Traders make a lot of profits
- (Humans) Pirates attack Traders to take their commodities
- (Humans) Fighters escort Traders for money
There must will have more action online.
How about that ?
' Wrote:In theory a reason for owning Tau 31 would be that in former versions it was the only place you could buy the Large Train. Just a guess though.
' Wrote:1. Rep rules can be enforced... Server rules 2.4, even though it's only for Faction affiliated characters, if u see a pirate faction character not getting chased around by the local police or BH, take a screenshot and post a complaint... (Keep in mind some pirate factions are not hostile to all houses)
2. To deal with the attacking of traders, make it manditory to give a warning demand, but do not delay in attacking. My idea, you've got from the time I start shooting at you until I kill you to drop the cargo that was requested which should be more than enough time to jettison. Piracy should work the same way for players as NPCs, don't demand cash, demand the cargo.
3. Don't complain about how unfair a pirate BS is compared to a lawful fighter, for the most part it's usually the pirates running into house capships and being called a coward when they run, either to save themselves from the capship or the swarm or navy/police NPCs who have the capacity to pilot MK2 versions of house fighters. (even pirate NPCs don't have these upgraded MK2 versions of thier ships, correct me if my statement is wrong)
4. No one needs warn you so long as they don't drag your shields down past the 1/2 way mark, where it is still considered "shooting for fun" as opposed to starting PvP.
'Server Rules' Wrote:1. PvP Rules
1.1 PvP in New York is prohibited.
1.2 If a player is attacked*, he has a right to defend himself regardless of who is attacking. There are no restrictions for self-defense.
1.3 Attacking characters of level 29 and below is prohibited. Characters under level 30 can be attacked only (1) if grouped with another character of level 30 or higher, (2) if spotted on site of a clan battle, and (3) if the attacker is himself level 29 and below.
1.4 Characters escorted by another character of level 30 or higher can be attacked regardless of their level.
1.5 During a PvP combat player who was killed 3 times should leave the fight, unless sides specify another limit of deaths before the combat begins. Sides should specify goals of the fight and exact time when it begins (and ends).
1.6 Self-killing with a Nova-type weapon or any other weapon is counted as a normal PvP death.
*For purposes of these Rules occasional shooting or shooting "for fun" does not count as an attack if it does not result in draining shields to 50% or lower or hull damage. Self-defense does not count as attack.
' Wrote:I completely agree with Maurauder
Why the hell shoud some pirate get to love the local NPC's and then attack someone who is also aligned with them?!?
Even the backup of some navy avengers or bounty hunters may aid in the traders escape.
And another thing - pirate/terrorist ships. What chance has a law abiding figher have against a cruiser or a BS?!?
I seen this guy called 'orderBS-isis' or sumthin like that, he was white on my hud(and i had proper trader rep), and, in an osiris.
So i didnt take much notice, i thought he was just an order guy(who are now not hostile to anyone apart from nomads) and then he shot me with a BATTLE RAZOR. He gave no warning.
Things that mainly pissed me off about that:
1) He was in a BS. Kinda unfair.
2) He gave no warning.
3) He did not show red on my scope.
This guy needs to STOP BEING A PUSSY.
' Wrote:From my reading of the server rules you don't have to give a warning before opening fire. Though if they are white on your HUD it'd be polite at least.
Though since no-one seems to have the proper rep it might be a good idea to make it a server rule.
I know being mobbed by NPCs is annoying, I've gotten use to it and they supply me with any and all bots and batts I need, regardless of what ship I'm using, you can get quite rich just from hitting the odd NPc train or transport.
If people keep getting worked up over players attacking them then maybe we should consider turning the option for players being able to damage other players off.
Then we'll only have the NPCs to fight which would be boring.
This arguement is never going to be resolved so all sides are happy. Just dropping it isn't going to do any good either.
Like I said before, the rep rules CANNOT be enforced unless igiss and wolf go through the player database which would be a waste of time as people would either try to change their rep back or just leave the server.
We need another solution here as trusting players to get the right rep seems to be failing.
And now, something from Discovery's very favorite person whose gender is commonly unknown... DAB!

3) eh... I don't think this is gonna do sh*t.. players will just take a ship with smaller cargo and run with it.
4) Oh, hell no. That unbalances the trains. From someone who screams murder over unbalanced ships, this is a surprise from you, Dab.
1.) But the time it would take to do that would allow the train to escape.
2.) I said It wasn't really enforcable. You need to read the stuff in ( ) before posting.
3.) Thats the point. If you want to big money you have to take the risk of being killed/pirated. I think this solution would actually work.
4.) As I said. It would make it too weak and really isn't much of a solution. Again read the stuff in ( ).

'Igiss' Wrote:PvP on our server is generally allowed with following restrictions.
1. Unequal PvP is not encouraged. Do not abuse.
2. PvP in New York is prohibited.
3. Cases when attacking other players first is not allowed in all systems:
- Players below level 26 flying fighters (any ships, except freighters)
- Players flying any original game freighters from Rhino to Humpback. All other transport ships from Repair Ship to Large Train are open for PvP. Also feel free to attack any military capital ships. Basically, all new ships except CSV are allowed for PvP.

STAY AWAY FROM BLOODFRENZY IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR CARGO

' Wrote:Do any of the people wondering why its bad realize why NPC (the Pirate faction during the -=?=- period) disbanded and left?
Oh thats right, because they couldn't pirate. Every single trader (and even sometimes fighters and 1-2 gunboats) have ran and docked when I asked for money or cargo. Not a single complied or even responded. First thign they did was hit the cruise and fly off to a base. And there is no way to stop a train in cruise. Its completely immune to cruise disrupters. Face it guys. There is NO WAY for someone to pirate a trader. I have started shooting first and killing them for the lootable cargo. Thats the only way to make some money out of it. And comon people! NY wasn't made non-pvp to protect traders from pirates. It was made so people had a place to talk with others without getting attacked by someone. It WAS NOT made that way to be available for traders to hide from pirates until they logged off.
There are only a few ways to fix this problem.
1.) Somehow make trains susceptible to cruise disrupters.
2.) Not allow traders to camp in NY or on bases/planets (can't really be enforced though...).
3.) Make trains take a long time to go to cruise (this could work).
4.) Make trains incredibly weak, which also makes NPC pirates too strong against them.
Now only 2 of those really work without the Traders help, or making them too weak, and one of them has probably been tried and apperantly noone can find out how to fix the disrupters not working.
We have to solve this problem or our server is going to be missing a very important factor. Pirates. We barely ever get new pirate factions and when we do they disappear in a week or two.

' Wrote:Dual trains. Nice idea... I dont see a problem there. There is a risk running dual trains in the same computer. Ive learn that the hard way when travelling with my RH BS and my holder char at a time. the holder char broke formation and run into a planet. I didnt have time to switch accounts, it was all too fast.
I lost 700mill worth of cargo, weapons, and equipment. Like 300 superior nomad brains, 10 BS/cruiser shield geenrators, and LOTS.. LOTS of codenames and powerful weapons, like 3-4 pairs of each, let alone nomad weps and other stuff, like 4 mk7 armors. >>>>.<<<<

Good idea. We'll see...
I hope you enjoyed this look back into time. I know that I did, and if you find other posts from before mid 2007 that seem to really reflect how the server has changed, or from any time period really, please do post them here. Anything by Igiss is noteworthy and will be added to the OP.
Goodnight, Disco. Stay classy out there.
I think this is relevant so i mind as well just say it.
Korrd has begun to play Disco again.
That is all.
And ya it is pretty cool to go back five years and see how everyone posted and stuff.. And there was metamay too ;3 Oh and Dab wasn't such a party pooper, he actually had smilies in his posts. And apparently hoodlum did too!
I actually prefer some of the good ol' days. Like when NY was a red zone, you get banned for even test firing, or when they like shut off the rights to do anything in NY even RP haha (Well not that bad but pretty close)
