When I see Smugglers ID in-game, I facepalm. No joke, why would a smuggler in-game say on their ship "Oh I'm a smuggler!"
Would a smuggler REALLY say in-game that he/she is a smuggler?
Now here is an idea, if the smuggler is carrying legal cargo, an FLHook forces the ID to independent trader.
If a police ID character catches a Smuggler with contraband, the ID shows as Smuggler, giving the police authorities an actual roleplay, smugglers get a better chance from the military which isn't their job arguably.
So, is it possible for non-police characters to scan smugglers and it shows as "Independent Trader" while if a police character scanning a smuggler WITH contraband shows him as a smuggler.

What people don't understand is that IDs have no existence inRP. No, the smuggler ID doesn't say "Hey, I'm a smuggler" because inRP you are not supposed to see that ID.
Why not use Independent trader or Freelancer ID in the first place. I've always seen the Smuggler ID as a way to fly the Pirate train, there is no other reason to use it unless you fly under unlawful IFF.

Fletcher my man, I can't see the entire point of this idea myself. The navy people and everyone who can stop smugglers are still able to see the illegal cargo. Thus defeating the purpose entirly. If this was possible, then to fully master the idea, you'd have to have it so that when the smuggler ID is mounted, the illegal cargo goes invisible as well, and then only police characters can see it. I can't see this happening myself. But I hope you can see where I'm coming from?

Hmm yes you do have a point. If the cargo is invisible to all until police/military scans that would make more sense as said.
It would make the need for police and military units higher, at least more than just the wars going on of course. It gives people more to do other than PvP while RP'ing, or vice versa whatever you prefer.
I can see where you are coming from, and makes sense.

Admins have stated that it's fine to use the ID to some extent in-RP, for example treating the person as having a criminal record.
