So I decided I needed a project of some kind for my free time other then games to keep me occupied while I keep hunting for work. So I decided I've still got access to free Autodesk programs, so I downloaded the Autodesk 3ds Max 2012. I got instantly bewildered and consulted their tutorials.

Sadly, they are not for the 2012 and I find myself getting lost.

So where did you guys learn how to use this program, or learn how to get started?

I'd like to see if I can be creative with ship designs, sadly, I can't even get out of the blocks yet...

Anyone know where to get actual 2012 tutorials that make sense?

I've been working in max daily for the last four years as part of my education.

The videos as this site should take you through the basics of the ui and how to work with an editable poly.

my advice is to lookup youtube videos and press buttons as in about a week i was able to make a jet that could take off, do a loop and fly over head, all in the process of about 10 seconds and it really was not a bad jet.
