Jack Denton walks down what must be the 20th identical looking corridor on Ames station that he has traversed in the last 5 minutes. The only word you can think of to describe him is spindly, he wears long grey pants and long sleeved black shirt and it is obvious he does not care about his appearance. His hair is disheveled and he has a few odd hairs sticking out from his attempt at a shaven chin, through the orange glow of his glasses it can be seen that he has not had much sleep lately. Despite his less then stellar appearance and sense of fashion he carries himself with dignity and walks with confident strides, however his outward confidence belies the fact that he is hopelessly and completly lost.
Jack Denton stops in the middle of the 21st identical corridor and sighs in frustration, "why is no one around when you need them?" he asks the empty corridor. He looks around him and upon confirming that no one is near he mutters under his breath, "oh fine". His glasses glow slightly brighter and suddenly he can see a map of the entirety of Ames station. He quickly notes his location and the location of Dawn Stewart's office, sighs as he suppresses a few choice words, turns and retraces his steps. 20 corridors later (all of which he had walked through before) he turns to the left and enters the office.
The secretary looks up from her work and does a bit of a double take at seeing such an odd man walk in the door; tall, scrawny, scruffy and wearing glasses that glowed orange Jack Denton did look quite a sight. The secretary recovers quickly, "ah, Mr Denton I assume? Go on through, Ms Stewart is expecting you".
Jack nods and mutters his thanks before pushing open the door to Dawn Stewart's office.
As Denton pushes through the door into a similar room to the corridors, the room had a large medical machine placed up against the wall next to the door on the left, a padded hospital bed was placed against the right wall. The front of the room was covered by a extremely reinforced window to keep the airless expanse back. The left side of the room had a table placed against the wall with a tray of unsorted equipment with a small lady trying to sort out them out. The room gives a fragrance of a room that has been santilized too overly well.
The smally lady, facing the other way showing her long brown hair, wearing a freshly washed and dried white lab coat that looked a size too big for herself. She hadnt noticed or heard Denton entering the room.
Jack waits for a while, but it soon becomes apparent that the lady will not complete her work anytime soon. He clears his throat softly, but the lady does not seem to notice. 'Ms Stewart?', Jack calls.
She gives a jolt before turning to face him. Upon seeing his appearance she does a double take much like the secretary outside the door.
Jack grimaces, 'apologies Ms Stewart, I didn't mean to frighten you." He looks at the mess of equipment on the tray, "I can return at a better time if you wish?'
Dawn glanced back down at the tray and stuttered out a few words, "No, im sure I can sort this out quickly...", she starts rearranging the tray. Regaining her breath she says "Just sit down on the bed and we'll have a look at your eyes." She points over to the bed on the other side of the room.
She inspects each instrument carefully and puts them all back down in their allotted space and picks up the tray.
Jack nods and moves over to the bed and sits down, his glasses lose their orange glow as he turns them off and he seems to sway a little in his sitting position. “It’s always a bit disorientating having the world go from vibrant and sharp to dark and fuzzy in an instant”, he explains. He reaches up, takes the glasses off and places them inside one of his pockets.
She puts the tray down on the bed and picks up a instrument and turns it on, activating a bright light. "Okay... Hold still..." She shines the light into your eye "Look up" She waits for the device to give a reading "Look down." She waits for the reading, she does the same thing for the other directions and writes the result. She picks up a different looking instrument with a pair of googles attached to it. "Here put these on" She hands you the googles to wear.
"Just something new the boys in the labs finished a few weeks ago, Its been tested for everything, Its safe." She waits patiently for the googles to give a reading. "Okay, now that we've got your eye statistics down we can put some people on working to a way to improving them. Maybe a implant or some medicine will do." She picks up a electronic pad with the results on it from the tray and hands it to you. "What do you think?"
Jack takes the pad and looks at it for a moment, he chuckles and shakes his head apon realizing that he cant make out any details displayed on the screen. He reaches into his pocket and removes his glasses, dons them and pushes a button on his wrist-computer, the glasses begin to glow orange again. He looks at the pad again, "I have to be honest, most of this makes no sense to me, could you give me a basic run through it?"
Dawn quietly giggles to herself, "Men... Your eyes have been weared out by the use of your goggles. The constant use of them has burned your reticles pretty badly, then you changed them to make up for that, it slowly started changing how they worked you see?" She follows you through all the other small details and problems.
