So yeah, I have heard of shared ships on accounts, but what about making a system for renting ships? I mean for newer players or characters, they rent larger trading vessels, put some time in it and make more money more quickly than they would have grinding up the normal way.
There are trust issues, yes, but admins are there and the hammer is their tool of choice. I think, or was it the butt-slap-of-pain-and-shame?
So yeah, renting ships? I'd love to rent a Whale or whatever name the GMG gave it.

Hahahaha right. They don't have time to process sanction reports fast enough and you want them to oversee rented ships? Well, the idea is alright as it is, i was thinking about myself, but oh well. I stick to shared ships for factions or friends (imaginary ones of course).
1, The admins are still frustrated with their job and giving more weight on their shoulders couldnt be the best choice novadays when a lot of members are jailed in RL.
2, Your idea need thrustable peoples or special ID-s, because there are a lot of peoples who wont use it for trade, just sell the ship for fast price.

True, I guess, I heard they used to do it for loans until I think I read that "its up to the lender to research their contracter" so to speak. I guess the same would apply to ships proper. Lending a ships to someone a day old here isn't the smartest move in the world.

But I'm still on it. Its a nice idea.
1. Hmm true true, maybe one-day when we aren't all jackasses eh? No offence intended of course, figure of speech.
2. I assume you mean trustable people? And yup, same with loans, and ship sales. We still do them. Though it would be silly to be duped on a ship sale if you gave the code before being paid. For traders just use generic or Indie ID's, or let the rentee know that its within a certain faction. If they sell, they sell. I'd like to rent a trader to get the hang of it in-game, even though there is SP and Disco of Disco.
EDIT:
' Wrote:I have actually made a rental shop before, but it fell apart because the admins could not guarantee that the ships will be returned in the case of a scam attempt.
Aye it is a bummer ain't it, though is that still the same for loans these days?
No, I dont think it's a worthwhile idea.
mainly because, as ive heard from a lot of folks who play angels, the majority of newbies who get help, rarely say thank you, or show appreciation. It seems to me that handing them actual ships, with the hope of getting them back, is a good way to get ripped off - and even if it only happens four times out of ten, it will still be frustrating and a bit demoralising.
Plus, ill say what I said a long time ago...

Someone who has worked hard for their gains in disco will have tested there resolve on whether this game will bore them or not. The folks ive started playing with that got shortcuts are now no longer playing. Loaner ships to get someone a good base of cash, also wont give them an appreciation of how much cash that actually is. Again, i remember when a payday of 200k was a lot of credits.
And, as well...

You've a bit of truth there. Back in the day, when the only character I had on the server was my freelancer trader - if he wanted shiny toys, he had to go trade for them, or do missions, whatever. Then when I got enough credits built up that he could actually buy a trading ship of some kind - oh, happy days, hauling cargo, trying to avoid pirates, wandering Sirius in search of cargo and someplace to sell it...
It was so cool to be able to start up a second character on the server and be able to get something more than just a starflea because my first character actually had a bit of a bankroll, and was (in RP, anyway) related to the second.
Now, of course, I'm jaded. Want a new battleship? No problem - go buy it out of petty cash... :)
