Hello,

first I have to apologise, if this topic has already been discussed before, but I haven't found anything with the forum search.

The victim: Republican Shipping within Liberty.

For some reason we have a fairly high activity of Republic Shipping within the whole house space of Liberty. Republican Shipping is a Rheinland corporation and itself diplomatically at war with all Liberty forces as guidelined by the Rheinland Bundestag.

LPI player faction is listing Republican Shipping as unfriendly.
The Liberty Navy player faction is listing the player faction of Republican Shipping also as unfriendly.
Same applies to the LSF player faction.
So there is no reason to shoot them on sight.

Repulican Shipping is usually hauling goods like Oxygen, Water, H-Fuel, Cobalt and other commodities which are perfectly allowed to be moved to or through Liberty as stated in chapter two of the Liberty Trade Embargo. As they are flying civilian ships like the "Gull", they are not violating the law at all. Destroying these deliveries might also have a negative impact to the economy of the Republic of Liberty.

So in my eyes there has to be done something about it. As I have a LPI char in Liberty, I even have to try to RP those bored dreadnaught-captains, which are using Republican ships for target practice. I am usually getting rough answers, this would be nothing of my concern. "Its war kid" "They are hostile to me" "Great. Another Rheinlander is dead"

Shooting all these innocent civilians with their civilian ships is totally out of place.

I hereby request the administration of the server to adjust the reputation of the NPC factions accordingly to be also unfriendly to Republican Shipping.

Any thoughts? Am I the only one, who feels this should be changed?

Republican Shipping is not permitted anywhere in Liberty space according to Liberty law.

They are enemies of the state.

The trade embargo only applies to those who are actually permitted to cross the border between Liberty and Rheinland.

The NPCs are still there since they're leftover from vanilla Freelancer.

edit: All the Liberty lawful IDs have clauses about dealing with companies located in a house with which their own house is at war, I believe.

Could you show me the exact passage of the law?

As far as I know Liberty Law is not banning any Rheinland corporation.

I even have found something, which is actually permitting their presence.

See SECTION THREE : SHIPS AND WEAPONS
IV. Transport ships.
The transport models of the Rheinland Train, Behemoth medium transport, Pirate Train and Pirate Transport are not permitted within the house of Liberty. The ALG mover and all other transport class ships are permitted.

So hauling goods which are allowed to be imported, in a permitted ship, should be granted regardless of the orign of the hauling corporation. Libertonians are no racists.

Quote:Liberty Navy ID

Pilot carrying this ID is in the Liberty Navy, who :

Can destroy traders in Liberty who belong to corporations headquartered in Houses that Liberty is at war with if the trader refuses to drop all cargo and leave Liberty.

...

Quote:Liberty Police ID

Pilot carrying this ID is employed by Liberty Police, Inc, who:

Can destroy traders in Liberty who belong to corporations headquartered in Houses that Liberty is at war with if the trader refuses to drop all cargo and leave Liberty.
...

Quote:Liberty Security Force ID

Pilot carrying this ID is in the Liberty Security Force, who :
....
Can demand traders who belong to corporations headquartered in Houses that Liberty is at war with to drop all cargo and destroy ships if they refuse to comply
...

Due to the presence of these lines, it was probably deemed unnecessary to make further statements in the Liberty Law.

That passage from the law simply indicates what type of ships are permitted in Liberty, not which factions are permitted.

edit: regardless, for the benefit of the community, please excuse us while we add a clause in to the Liberty Law which clarifies the situation.

This makes no sense to me to be honest.

They are hauling good from Rheinland to Liberty. Which is good for the economy of Liberty. They are not violating any law and they are civilians.

My understanding of a "clean" war is to minimize civilian casualties.

The right granted within the IDs is only applying to other players. As stated in the topic description the NPCs are my major concern.
How do you expect me to order a NPC ship to drop its 200k units of Oxygen and then leave Liberty?

Shooting them on sight is still out of place to me. It is a war crime to slaughter civilians.

It's a game mechanic, and will not or cannot be changed. (Or maybe they just haven't bothered, I don't know.) It's just an unfortunate side-effect of modding Freelancer, and is not intentional.

Please don't justify certain RP actions due to ooRP game mechanics. It's better just to ignore the anomaly.

These goods from Rheinland could be sabotaged, also, Liberty buying Rheinland made goods stimulates Rheinland's economy as well, neither of these things are good for Liberty. Thus the embargo is in place.

Pretty much, NPC's are weird, don't relate anything they do to RP.

This would be appreciated, as this would at least justify some actions..

An amendment has been made to the Liberty law. Please see Section Four.

Thank you for pointing out this poorly-defined point of the law.
