Actualy Freelancer was a Clone of this serie, that started with "X: Beyond the Frontier" 1999 and now prepares to release the 6th new edition "XRebirth" in Q4, 2011. It has no multiplayer but it offers everything else generations ahead of what you are used to in Freelancer in every aspect.

Enjoy
I saw this "trailer" few months ago and it is ...............GREAT!
[color=#FFFFFF]P.S Actaully Freelancer was a continuation of StarLancer which was a clone of wing commander/privateer series which are a bit older than X: Beyond the Frontier, to be precise about a decade older. In fact the first versions of Freelancer even used the same radar and power distribution system and flight physics as the last Wing Commander and StarLancer but eventually got recycled to a more simplified and clean
I see my computer going down screaming because of the pain.
I for one hope that it will be more combat friendly. The last X-games felt...
Well, more like economy simulations or something. And the fighting wasn't that nice, at least not with the usual Keyboard + Mouse. (I guess it might have been great with a Joystick, but sadly I don't have one.)
But yeah, looks stunning - as always. Egosoft seems to try getting the best space graphic possible and I like that. I just hope it will still be "runnable" on a computer that isn't a scientific research machine in some university.
Mhh...I would find it interesting to see such game in MMOG-style. Of course it would have to be done right. Because this would be one of the games I could imagine in that style. Even though I say there are too many around nowadays.
What i read is that XRebirth will finaly bring multicore support to the X³ universe.:yahoo:That should give a huge boost on systems with 2 cores or more.

Actually, Freelancer is not a "continuation" as such. Starlancer and Freelancer were developed at the same time, and, because Freelancer was delayed several times, the story of Starlancer was worked into the beginning in order to give the entire we-suddenly-live-in-Sirius-thing a reason.

and no planet landings:(
You can buy a pair(2) of terran "Ollerus" utility frigates and build a Jumpgate connection from anywhere to anywhere with them. (Was part of famouse Xtended mod)
I had 4 (pairs) in my veryown sector (there is an universewide auction event for one sector at some time in gamestory). Made it one of the most crowded sectors of X3 universe cause the shortcuts it provides and all the AI NPC are smart enough to use it.
Tho with "ring of fire"-addone putting as much deployable lasercannons around thouse gates as you want/provide, it tends to become a very bad idea for some of the unwelcome. My salvager AI-ships always have a lot to salvage.
