just wondering - especially when it comes to daily life - life at the edges and general wealth...
whats are the typical / average wages of a middle class worker/academic in sirius?
what does the common man consider to be "wealthy"
maybe we can try to collect a few opinions on it - depending on the region of space of course....
one might keep in mind that Trent - in the SP campaign eyed the starflier ( cost around 8000 ) - and wasn t impressed at all ( rather as if someone sees a really cheap and quite old ( but not as old as to be a valuable oldtimer ) car.
personally - i guess one SC appears to be similar to a dollar. - but then - we have to wonder - commodities appear to be fairly cheap ( considering they come in tons ... [ a ton of oxygen - probably liquid and in pressure flasks for only around 8 SC? ] )
so - how much do you think a SC is worth compared to daily life in sirius.

Bear in mind, he'd just sunk his entire life savings into a Clydesdale or Transport (his log isn't clear) and a million credits worth of Boron ore. Of course he's not going to be impressed by a Starflier, which drops him to the bottom of the market again.

I'm assuming this is more for game balance's sake, but I'd love to see the prices for all commodities across the board go up. Also remember, you're buying at bulk industrial prices, which are always much cheaper. If the average citizen wanted to buy one unit of Oxygen in consumer sized canisters, it'd probably cost a lot more.

I think it'd depend. There are references to localised currencies (for example, Rheinland's currency crashing after the 80 Years War), so its value would vary on conversion. Despite that, I would say that one SC = one USD in my opinion.
EDIT: Also, what Vlko said. Becoming a millionaire was still a huge, important thing then. The way Trent was describing it, it seemed to be a case of 'collect money, retire forever'. On Leeds, you probably could.
I think in terms of very poor people 10 SC are a huge count for them, for example. Buying a ton of water then for 8 SC then is looking weird, indeed. A ton of water should cost much more. Something related to prices in RL I think, but not too much. For example for a ton of water something around 500 SC. But how does it look then with something like Iridium or Plutonium. All that stuff then should be related to properties in terms of the price so that a 'norma' civillian wouldn't be able to buy even one unit of that. But otherwise....it wouldn't make a difference if you increase the count or not. At the moment I can't imagine 1SC is worth 1 dollar. More then like 0,001 SC is worth 1 Dollar.
Im sure there has been discussions about this before
To me each planet has its own currency, those currencys are turned over into sirus credits, kinda like countries today, to be rich u need to think about space, but on a planet u think about the planets currency unless ur dealing with space then its sirus credits....
get what i mean?
There was a complaint because your signature violated forum rule 1. Specifically:

5,000 credits= The average cost needed to sustain a small sized civilian spaceship that engages in combat or long range travel, including the cost of taking care of the capitan and crew, for one standard day.

Uhm..
A ton of gold for 600-2800 Dollar?
Seems like Gold isn't that rare in space it seems.
I personally think that the prices are just random to balance things.
